She has a comprehensive understanding of how to recognise if a child is at risk of harm and what to do if she is concerned about their welfare. The childminder has clear documentation to support her practice in keeping children safe. She maintains accurate registers and has a current paediatric first-aid qualification. The childminder has high expectations for her work and sets targets, which bring about improvements for children, such as building on her experience through training. p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder regularly observes children, plans for their individual development and assesses their progress regularly. The childminder teaches children a wide range of skills. She plans new experiences and uses their interests to plan challenging activities. The childminder sits close to children as they play and supports them when needed, while also allowing them the freedom to explore and have their own ideas. She constantly engages children in conversation, asking questions and repeating words back to them correctly so they hear the right pronunciation. The childminder uses effective teaching skills to support and extend children's learning. Children develop good communication and language skills, and undertake physical activities that support early writing.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder's well-organised settling-in arrangements include detailed information from parents about each child's care needs. The childminder uses this information to meet children's individual needs from the outset. This helps to promote children's and parents' confidence at a time of change. The childminder gives all children individual attention and regular praise, which builds on their self-esteem and developing confidence. Children are learning to be very independent. Children take part in activities that help them to learn about healthy lifestyles, such as growing and eating their own vegetables. The childminder provides nourishing meals and children relish outdoor play and being active. She also makes excellent use of the local community to help children learn about other people.

p.3
