Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector talked to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at a range of documentation, including policies, evidence of suitability of household members, the childminder's self-evaluation, and observations and assessment documentation. The inspector took account of the views of parents from information in the childminder's records.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of statutory requirements. She regularly attends training, reviews her work and seeks the views of parents. She uses her links with the local authority and other childminders well to help evaluate and develop her practice. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge of child protection issues and a clear understanding of what to do if she has concerns about a child's welfare or development. She has effective ways to monitor all children's progress, and identify and address any emerging gaps in their learning or in her own professional development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has good teaching skills and a secure knowledge of how children learn. She gathers information from parents about their children's abilities when they start. She regularly shares information with parents and other settings children attend to help plan consistency in their learning. Children's early communication and physical skills are developing well. The childminder effectively supports children's early language and speaking skills, for example, by naming the objects she uses or asking the children questions. Children demonstrate high levels of motivation as they choose toys to take into their den. They show a great thirst for learning as they make pretend meals, push and pull cars along tracks, look at pictures and recognise their favourite characters. Children are active and happy learners.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder builds good relationships with children, which positively support their well-being. She places a good focus on developing children's personal, social and emotional development. Children settle quickly and happily follow the childminder's good hygiene and safety routines. Children have time to practise their self-care skills in daily routines and planned activities. This actively supports their growing independence and instils confidence. Children behave well and have a clear understanding of what is expected of them. They show high levels of curiosity as they fully explore the well- organised toys and activities.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are working within typical levels of development for their age in all areas of learning. Children are developing an enjoyment of learning. This effectively supports them to be well equipped and emotionally prepared for the next stage in their learning.
