This provision is good

 The childminder has a strong focus on developing children's understanding of how to behave. She uses every opportunity to reinforce her exceptionally high expectations. Children learn to play safely, to share and to treat each other with care and respect.  The childminder works very well with her co-minder, for example, to help evaluate practice. The childminder recognises the value of continuing to develop her knowledge and skills in order to provide a good learning environment for children.  Children have developed very secure attachments with the childminder. They are happy and are confident to join in with play and learning activities. They develop skills to prepare them for their next stage of learning.  The childminder has a good understanding of requirements. She monitors children's progress well and regularly shares her assessments with parents, which involves them well. Parents are extremely happy with the care that the childminder provides.

p.1

This provision is good

 Children benefit from regular outside play and healthy, nutritious food. This all contributes to their good physical and emotional health.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Processes for sharing information about children's learning and development between the childminder and staff at other settings that children attend are not fully effective.  Sometimes the childminder misses opportunities to encourage children to use their senses and explore real objects.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has completed training in safeguarding which she has implemented carefully in her practice. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder reflects regularly on her roles and responsibilities. She has a very good understanding of how to provide a safe and secure environment for children. She works very well with her co-minder, for example, to take a consistent approach to behaviour management. The childminder effectively identifies how to strengthen her skills and drive continuous improvement. She keeps up to date with current practice. The childminder effectively identifies and closes any gaps in children's learning. Partnerships with parents are very good. Parents comment that they receive regular feedback and know what their children are learning about.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children thoroughly enjoy their learning and achieve well. The childminder completes regular observations and assessments of children's progress, which she uses effectively to monitor their development. Children are keen to participate in adult-led activities. They are very engaged and express pleasure, especially when singing with the childminder. The childminder ensures that all children are given a chance to join in such activities. She skilfully adapts her language and tone, and motivates even the youngest children. Children show high levels of concentration and are well engaged throughout the day.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a caring and very friendly home environment with interesting resources. Children delight in achieving the childminder's expectations for their behaviour. They readily join in with tidying up and willingly take turns. The childminder is an excellent role model for children's behaviour. Communication between the childminder and her co- minder is calm and respectful, which supports children's learning well. Children learn to be independent and develop good self-care skills as they wash their hands, get ready for lunch and make choices in their play. Children are kept healthy through good hygiene procedures and learn about healthy eating; for example, during weekly cooking activities.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress. They develop a range of skills that prepare them well for their next stage in learning, including school. For example, they are learning to care for others, to be social and confident. Children gain useful early literacy and mathematical skills.
