This provision is good

 The childminder has a safe, well-organised home where children are able to access high-quality toys and resources and develop their growing independence.  The childminder uses her good experience well to ensure she provides activities that capture children's interests and imaginations. These activities also complement their learning in other settings.  The childminder's good knowledge of her community and work in partnership with other agencies, health services, nurseries and schools helps to ensure children receive appropriate support. This means that any gaps in their learning are identified and closed.  The childminder teaches children well about differences in others, as well as those who come from communities other than their own.  The childminder is particularly sensitive in supporting children who have special educational needs. She provides children with security and support to help them make

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently share children's learning achievements with parents to help them continue their children's learning at home so that they make even better progress.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 share children's learning and achievements with parents regularly so that parents can understand how to continue their children's learning at home and help them make the best progress possible.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities inside and outside and undertook a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector spoke with children and the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection, and the views of parents were taken into consideration through discussions and written comments.  The inspector looked at documentation and discussed children's progress towards the early learning goals.  The inspector discussed the childminder's self-evaluation and how she plans for improvement.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has good systems to review any risks in her home and when she takes children on outings. The childminder's attention to updating her safeguarding policy, as a result of recent training, also ensures children's safety. All documentation fully supports children's welfare. The childminder ensures that children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder has met the recommendations from the last inspection. She has undertaken training with specialist agencies that support children who have special educational needs to help her improve outcomes for children. She is confident in taking appropriate action in the event of a child requiring emergency medical attention. Parents welcome the good support and sound advice from the childminder, which helps to build good relationships.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides a good variety of activities and experiences that build on children's learning. These help children to independently choose what they want to do. Babies thrive while exploring many bright, interactive toys that encourage them to move and explore. They quickly start to crawl and pull themselves up to reach different objects. The childminder constantly chats with babies to support their early communication and language skills, and successfully adapts her language to challenge the understanding of older children. The childminder works effectively with schools to settle children into their new environment. She liaises with teachers to ensure that she can build on children's learning after school.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children settle well with the childminder, showing they are happy and feel secure. The childminder manages children's behaviour well. She shares her home rules with parents and children. Children respond well to the childminder's requests and praise that motivate them to please and behave well. They play together and share toys, and older children learn patience for those who are younger. Children learn to keep themselves safe when on outings. For example, on the way home from school, the childminder asks children to look for cars and say when it is safe to cross the road. Children understand the importance of holding hands and staying close to the childminder to keep safe. Children are healthy and keep fit. They have many opportunities to play outside and enjoy eating healthy snacks and meals.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of the progress children make from when they first start with her. She successfully works well with others to continue to support children to achieve their goals, so they settle well at school.
