This provision is good
Children are confident with the childminder. They are very settled with her and have a good relationship. The childminder's home is safe for children to play and learn. She assesses risks in the environment and deals with them promptly. Children access a healthy lifestyle with the childminder. They eat healthy, home-cooked meals and snacks and spend ample time outside and engaging in physical activities. The childminder has strong relationships with the parents. This allows her to support children's development fully and provide consistency for them in their learning. The childminder attends regular training courses to extend her knowledge and understanding. This has allowed her to extend the variety of opportunities to children and extend her knowledge on topics such as children's patterns of play. Children enjoy a wide range of activities that cover all areas of learning. They make good progress in their development.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Toys and resources are not always easily accessible for children to choose from. This limits their opportunities to be independent. The childminder does not make the most of learning opportunities to develop children's understanding of shapes.

Inspection activities
The inspector looked at a sample of the childminder's documentation. The inspector observed activities and the quality of the childminder's interactions with the children. The inspector talked to the childminder about her self- evaluation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of the procedures to take if she has concerns about a child's welfare. The childminder teaches children about keeping themselves safe, for example, learning about road safety and being safe when on outings. The childminder reflects on her practices and values feedback from the parents, as well as children who attended in the past. This allows her to establish what is working well and to make improvements. The childminder has detailed policies and procedures in place, which she shares with parents to inform them of her practices. The childminder regularly reviews children's progress and plans effective activities to support their individual needs. The childminder understands the importance of working with other professionals to support children with additional needs and provide consistent care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has extended her knowledge to make good improvements to her planning and activities for the children. Children enjoy reading stories with the childminder. They enjoy her company and sit with her while she reads the books. The childminder talks to children about the books and encourages them to help turn the pages. Young children are excited to join in with activities that support their creative development. For example, they explore with play dough and paint using brushes and their hands. The childminder stays close to the children and talks to them about what they are doing. She uses questions to encourage children's language. Children are motivated to learn and eager to join in with activities.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has sensitive settling-in practices in place to support the needs of the children and their parents. They attend as many visits as they require until the children feel comfortable being left in her care. The childminder has developed close relationships with the children and their parents. Children form friendships with their peers and play nicely together. The childminder visits local playgroups and markets to provide children with additional social situations and to learn about the diverse community they live in. The childminder develops opportunities to build children's confidence, for example, making photo books of events and outings that they have completed together. Children enjoy looking at the photos and talking about events such as birthdays.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder tracks children's progress from when they start with her to when they leave her care. This ensures children are well prepared for the next stage of their learning, for example, school.
