This provision is good

 The childminder monitors children's learning effectively. As a result, she is able to identify and narrow any gaps in their achievements.  The childminder works effectively in partnership with other settings children attend to share information. Children benefit from all adults successfully meeting their learning and development needs.  The childminder extends her knowledge and skills by continuing her training. She uses her knowledge from training well to promote good outcomes for children, such as successful communication and language development.  Children are very enthusiastic in their play and show an eagerness to learn. The childminder joins in with their play, sensitively supporting and encouraging them. Consequently, children are well motivated and make good progress in their learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the childminder does not fully encourage parents to share information about their children's learning and experiences at home.  On occasions, the childminder does not help children to be fully independent in making the most of their self-help skills, for example, at snack time.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop further the good partnerships with parents by encouraging them to share information on children's interests and learning at home  provide more opportunities for children to develop their self-help skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children engaged in activities and the childminder's interaction with them.  The inspector spoke with the children and childminder at convenient times during the inspection.  The inspector sampled various documents, including children's learning records, risk assessments, and relevant policies and procedures.  The inspector took into account the written views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has a secure understanding of her responsibility to meet all requirements, promote children's welfare and protect them from harm. She completes regular training; this helps to ensure she is confident in following procedures and knows who to contact if she has a concern. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder evaluates the quality of her provision carefully and encourages parents to share their views. This helps her to clearly identify areas for further improvement. The childminder has reflected well on the recommendation from the last inspection and continues to develop children's understanding of cultural diversity in society through a wide range of resources and experiences. Parents are very complimentary about the childminder's practice and the good rates of progress their children have made.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The qualified childminder has a good understanding of how children learn. She provides children with a wide range of experiences to promote further learning and ensure they develop a good understanding of the world, such as visits to farms, forests and the beach. She uses well-presented assessment records to effectively plan learning experiences and promote further learning. The childminder interacts well in children's play, and they have fun in their learning. For example, children of differing abilities learn about shape and colour through a shape-matching game. The childminder promotes children's understanding of mathematics well. For instance, when children made long snakes from beads, the childminder suggested measuring the lengths with a tape measure to make comparisons.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children have a secure relationship with the childminder. Younger children develop the confidence and independence to explore. However, they know they can return to her for comfort when needed. The childminder helps children to develop healthy lifestyles. For example, they enjoyed shopping for unusual and unfamiliar fruits to sample at snack time. The childminder manages children's behaviour well. Children are taught to share and take turns through enjoyable games. They receive lots of praise for their achievements, which increases their self-esteem. The childminder provides good support for children who are learning English as an additional language. For example, she works in partnership with parents to learn simple words in Swahili, which she can use in her setting.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their development. They develop good self-confidence and demonstrate a keen interest in learning. They are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, such as pre-school and school.
