This provision is good
The childminder provides children with good quality teaching. She is alert to the possible learning opportunities in children's self-chosen play and makes the most of these to help children extend their skills. The childminder promotes children's speaking and listening skills well. She provides children with language rich experiences and encourages them to be as vocal as possible. Children are rapidly gaining confidence in their ability to speak to others. Children are making good progress in their learning and development. They are acquiring the skills they need for the next stage in their learning. The childminder works closely with parents to ensure children's well-being. She makes sure she has as much information as possible to help her plan for children's care and learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always give children enough time to make decisions. She sometimes offers another choice before children have time to think things through. The childminder's continuous professional development does not always focus on enhancing her good teaching further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

extend children's opportunities to think for themselves, making sure they have enough time to respond to questions and suggestions strengthen teaching even further by focusing her continuous professional development on children's learning.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector and the childminder reflected on children's learning through play. The inspector and the childminder had discussions at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including the safeguarding policies and evidence of the suitability of the childminder and members of the household over 16 years. The inspector looked at letters and emails from parents and took account of the views expressed.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder provides children with a safe and secure learning environment. She is well organised and works hard to maintain professional standards. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has focused her training on keeping up to date with the changes in safeguarding practice. She is able to detail aspects of a child's behaviour or injuries that would give her concern. She is very clear that any worries of this nature would prompt her to make a referral to her local safeguarding team. The childminder reflects on her work and sets herself goals for improvement. She actively seeks the views of those who use her service, effectively using the information to shape her practice. The childminder encourages parents to keep her informed about their child's changing needs. She reciprocates by making sure they know about their child's progress in learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children experience a very good range of interesting learning opportunities which are well matched to their stage of development. The childminder knows the children well. She takes the time to observe and to assess children's play regularly. She plans effectively for children's precise learning needs. She bases these plans on the information she gathers from parents and from her own observations. Children enjoy exploring the toys and deciding how to use them. The childminder is very encouraging. She works alongside them and is always ready to praise and show her appreciation. Children delight in sharing the picture books. They identify familiar objects and talk about what they see. They investigate the push button toys, pressing them down to make music and sounds. Children thoroughly enjoy playing with dolls. They take them for walks and pretend to feed them with a spoon from the bowl. Children are using their own experiences in their play. They

are very interested in the new opportunities offered and they are rapidly developing their understanding of how things work.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children behave well. The childminder has high expectations of children and communicates these very successfully to them. She is a good role model and is helping children to get along with one another. Children are beginning to understand about sharing and being kind to others. They go out regularly. The childminder takes them to different groups so they mix with a wide variety of people. She uses local places of interest to help children further extend their learning about the natural world. Children are active in the home and outside. The childminder makes sure there are frequent opportunities for them to play in the fresh air. She works with parents to ensure children eat a healthy, balanced diet and includes any specific needs into her care plans.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are making good progress in their learning from their individual starting points. They are successfully building on what they know and can do. The childminder makes sure children have a good grounding in the basic skills of communication and independence before moving them on to more complex ideas.
