 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector spoke with the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector held a meeting with the childminder and looked at relevant documentation, such as the self-evaluation form and evidence of the suitability of people living in the household.  The inspector viewed testimonials and questionnaires from a selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.

The childminder understands and meets the learning and development requirements exceptionally well. He provides children with a stimulating environment and well-planned activities relevant to their abilities and interests. The childminder's drive for improvement is underpinned by his exemplary reflective practice. Along with his co-childminder, they methodically complete evaluative reviews of all activities and aspects of their service. For example, the childminder has identified the further extension of the already excellent facilities in the garden as an area to develop. The childminder makes sure he maintains positive partnerships with parents, and others

involved in children's care and learning. This helps to ensure continuity and consistency in children's care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is outstanding

The quality of teaching is outstanding. The childminder creates a challenging and stimulating environment, where the atmosphere is incredibly positive for children. The provision is very well resourced and children are highly motivated as they instigate their own play. Young children rapidly gain communication skills because the childminder consistently talks with them as they play. He sets challenges for pre-school children which build their problem-solving and thinking skills, for example, as they work how to make mortar during construction play. Children are gaining a wealth of skills, ensuring that they are well prepared for school. Children thrive in the inspiring outdoor environment where they hunt for bugs and insects. They plant seeds and grow salad leaves, rocket and coriander. The childminder carries out accurate and precise observations and assessments of children's development using an electronic program. This also offers parents an

effective way to contribute towards the assessments of their children's learning and development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

Children form strong bonds with the childminder. He encourages them to respect each other and they develop positive attitudes towards others. Children display high levels of confidence and their behaviour is outstanding. Children actively learn about healthy lifestyles, following excellent hygiene procedures and taking personal responsibility for their needs. For example, young children help to pick fresh spinach, apples and cucumbers from the garden to eat for lunch.

p.3

Outcomes for children are outstanding

Children are excited and enthusiastic to learn in the childminder's stimulating and vibrant environment. They choose to play indoors or outdoors and easily select the resources they need to support their ideas. Children's literacy and mathematical skills are developing particularly well because they begin to read, write, count and solve problems involving number as they play.
