This provision is good

 The childminder's qualification and experience give her a very good knowledge of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She attends relevant training and effectively evaluates her learning to develop her practice further.  The observation, assessment and planning procedures provide a clear record of children's development. The childminder uses these effectively to monitor children's progress and provide a stimulating programme of activities to interest children and promote their development.  Children are very happy in the care of the childminder and settle well. They feel secure and very much at home in the welcoming environment. The childminder makes sure that play areas remain suitable, to keep children safe.  Parents provide very positive feedback about the care and progress of their children. They include good examples of how the childminder involves them in their children's learning and how they work together to support children well in their next steps.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder misses some opportunities to extend children's self-esteem and self- awareness even further during their imaginative play activities.  Although the childminder establishes links with other settings that children attend, she does not always do so from the beginning to robustly work in partnership and strengthen support to children.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make more use of opportunities for children to extend their confidence and self- awareness even further during their imaginative play  strengthen links and communication with all settings that children attend, to promote positive partnerships and continuity of care from the outset.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and children in their indoor and outdoor activities.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder.  The inspector sampled children's development records and read feedback letters from parents.  The inspector checked required certificates and documentation.  The inspector took account of the childminder's self-evaluation procedure.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder effectively promotes children's safety and well-being. She completes risk assessments and takes robust action to minimise possible hazards. For example, the childminder has covered the decking with artificial grass. This has made the garden more accessible and suitable for crawling babies. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder ensures that her assistant has a clear understanding of the policies and procedures, which include child protection. They complete relevant training, to maintain an up-to-date knowledge of the Local Safeguarding Children Board procedures. The childminder uses knowledge that she gains from various courses successfully. For instance, she introduces good ideas to improve her resources and to support children's communication.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder interacts well with children to engage them in play and support learning. She follows children's interests and makes good use of the natural environment. For instance, some children collected leaves and pinecones, others chose to splash in muddy puddles. To build on these experiences, the childminder provided creative materials for children to paint and glitter the items they collected. The childminder encourages children to develop a love of books. Younger children readily sit on her knee, listen well and repeat phrases. The childminder promotes children's language and early literacy development well through activities children enjoy. In addition, children develop good concentration skills, which help to prepare them for school.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder encourages positive behaviour. Children behave well and have good manners. They make friendships and have warm relationships with the childminder. To address the previous inspection recommendation, the childminder increased the variety of planting and growing activities. She promotes children's understand of healthy options through a variety of interesting and fun activities. For example, children pick blackberries to bake and use fresh vegetables to make home-made soup. Children develop independence skills in the daily routines, such as when they eagerly find their boots as they prepare to play outside. The garden is well equipped with a variety of resources, which the children explore and use with a keen interest.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children have a lovely time with the childminder and enjoy activities. They make good progress in their development and develop key skills for their next stage in learning.
