p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not used evaluations of her own practice to develop a focused programme of professional development to help her improve her teaching.  The childminder has not established strong links with other settings children attend in order to fully share information with teachers and promote continuity in children's care and learning.

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is confident in recognising the possible indicators of abuse. This helps her to be able to respond swiftly if any concerns arise. The childminder has gained a relevant early years qualification at level 3, which has developed her knowledge of safeguarding and child development. Undertaking the qualification has helped the childminder to make some improvements to her practice. The childminder effectively monitors the progress children make in their learning and development, and provides children with good support in the areas where they are making less progress. The childminder shares her policies and procedures with parents and keeps them up to date with any changes. This supports parents in gaining a good understanding of how the childminder operates her service.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder effectively supports children's personal, social and emotional skills. Children develop friendships with each other and are confident in larger groups. The childminder observes children as they play and makes assessments on their stages of development. She uses her knowledge of children to effectively plan activities that interest children and keep them engaged for a period of time. The childminder supports children's physical skills well. Children develop their skills in using tools and manipulating malleable materials. The childminder uses outings well to support children's understanding of the world, such as trips to the safari park and strawberry picking. The childminder seizes opportunities in the routine to extend children's mathematical knowledge. This helps children in gaining confidence in counting and naming shapes.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder is a good role model for children and she effectively helps children to learn how to share and take turns. The childminder praises children appropriately for their efforts. The childminder effectively supports the health and self-care of children so they are able to feed themselves independently and use equipment, such as cups without lids, competently. The childminder meets the care needs of children well and effectively promotes their physical well-being. Children feel comfortable and have a secure base from which to learn and develop. Children take reasonable risks appropriate to their age, which contribute towards developing their understanding of how to keep themselves safe.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The childminder uses children's play experiences to effectively develop their knowledge and skills. All children make good progress towards the early learning goals. The children experience a good range of different activities to help them in acquiring the key skills required for their next stage in learning, including school.
