This provision is good
The childminder has a positive attitude towards continual improvement. She reflects on her practice and identifies areas for development. For instance, since the last inspection she has developed her understanding of safeguarding and child protection by completing a number of courses. This helps promote children's welfare. The childminder provides a safe, welcoming environment for children. They choose from a wide variety of resources and play materials both indoors and outside. Children have good relationships with the childminder. She is sensitive to their individual needs, and effectively promotes their emotional and physical well-being. Children take part in a good variety of activities and experiences that the childminder plans around their interests and needs. They make good progress in their learning. The childminder works closely to involve parents in their children's learning. She shares

information with them on a daily basis and keeps them up to date with their children's achievements.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not fully extended all available opportunities to teach children how to understand and manage risks, for example, when they take part in regular fire drills. The childminder does not always provide opportunities for children to improve their understanding of the world around them, for example, to explore and investigate the natural world.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

increase children's involvement further in identifying risks and learning to keep themselves safe, for instance in the event of a fire or emergency extend opportunities for children to explore and investigate the natural world.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children taking part in activities with the childminder. The inspector had discussions with the childminder throughout the inspection about her practice and about children's learning and development. The inspector sampled paperwork, including children's records, and policies and procedures. The inspector looked around the areas of the childminder's home used by children. The inspector read parent questionnaires and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has an understanding of possible signs of abuse or neglect. She knows what steps to take if she has concerns about a child. She keeps all of the records required for childminding. These are well organised and up to date. The childminder monitors children's progress closely. This helps her identify where their strengths are and where to offer more support. She reflects on her practice and welcomes new ideas for improvements. For example, she sought advice about building children's concentration skills and introduced more sensory activities that would engage them for longer periods. She makes use of training courses to develop her skills. For example, she found a course about inclusion useful. This helped her review her practice and ensure she meets all children's individual needs well.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder gathers as much information as she can from parents before children start. This means she gets to know them well. She observes children and plans activities to build on their skills. She talks to children as they play, asks questions and introduces new words. Children's communication and language skills develop well. Where children are learning English as an additional language, the childminder makes sure they have books and stories from home. Children were captivated when the childminder played them songs in their home language. They enjoy activities based around their interests. For example, children delighted in using the pop-out puppets in a book and playing with real puppets.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder offers children gentle guidance and praise, which builds their confidence and helps them behave well. She acts as a good role model, encouraging children to treat one another with respect. Children share their own backgrounds and experiences, and are all valued and welcomed in the setting. The childminder supervises children closely to make sure they are safe. Children understand why they must not climb on the large toys or run inside. They learn some of the skills they need to keep themselves safe. The childminder promotes children's good health effectively. Children learn why they need to wash their hands before they eat. They have fun playing outside every day, enjoying the fresh air and exercise as part of a healthy lifestyle.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress based on their starting points. They learn a variety of useful skills that prepare them effectively for the next stage of learning and for school. They grow in independence, play well together, share and take turns.
