This provision is good
The childminder plans a range of well-thought-out activities that interest and engage children in their play. This helps develop children's confidence and motivation, and they make good progress in their learning and development. Children feel safe and secure in the childminder's home. Children demonstrate through their play and interactions with the childminder that they build good relationships with the childminder and each other, and are emotionally secure and confident. The childminder is well qualified and uses her good teaching skills to adapt activities to meet children's individual needs. Children are positive about their learning, and are gaining the skills they need in readiness for school. The childminder builds good relationships with parents. She uses her daily conversations and learning journals to share children's achievements effectively with them so they can extend their children's learning at home.

This provision is good
Children behave well in the setting. The childminder teaches children about turn taking and sharing so that they develop good social skills, which they use when playing with their friends.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always fully promote children's understanding of equality and diversity. The childminder sometimes carries out tasks for children rather than encouraging them to try these for themselves to consistently promote their independence skills.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector toured the parts of the childminder's home that are used by the children. The inspector observed the quality of teaching and the impact this had on children's learning. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder, a selection of children's records and safeguarding policies, and discussed her self-evaluation process.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage and her role and responsibility in meeting these requirements. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has recently completed safeguarding training and knows the signs that would give her cause for concern about a child's welfare and how to report these. She uses this knowledge to promote children's welfare effectively. The childminder works in partnership with her co-childminder to monitor her provision. She evaluates her practice and uses this information to determine where improvements are needed to improve their practice and outcomes for children. For example, she has recently changed how she displays children's artwork to develop further their sense of self-esteem and pride in their work.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder observes and assesses children's learning and development well. She plans a range of activities that build upon their skills and she monitors the progress that they make well. For example, children enjoy being creative as they paint, and the childminder uses this activity to develop their early writing skills further. Activities such as these support children in developing good coordination and mathematical skills, and the muscle control in their hands. These skills help to prepare them well for their future learning, such as pre-school or school. The childminder uses opportunities to extend children's knowledge well. For instance, when children play with the toy food she talks about the new types of fruits and vegetables they use. This helps to build on their vocabulary, and supports their communication and language skills effectively.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy to try new activities and experiences that build on their self-esteem and confidence. The childminder teaches children about how to keep themselves safe. For example, she talks about safety and practises the fire evacuation drill regularly with them so that they know what to do in the event of an emergency. Children learn good routines to keep themselves healthy. For example, they learn why it is important to wash their hands before they sit to eat together. Children are able to play outside to get fresh air and engage in physical play. They enjoy daily trips to the local park and playing in the childminder's garden. Children develop strong relationships with each other. They develop good social skills as they play cooperatively, share, and learn to value each other's needs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Outcomes for children are good. Children make good progress in their learning and development given their starting points. They are developing skills, such as early writing and counting skills, which prepare them well in readiness for school.
