This provision is good
Children form warm and trusting relationships with the childminder who meets their individual needs well. This nurtures children's well-being effectively. The childminder provides a safe and secure environment in which children choose from a good range of activities and lead their own play. This promotes their independent learning skills effectively. Older children learn to use a good range of tools for themselves to promote their mark making skills and creativity. The childminder reflects on the quality of her provision successfully to identify and make improvements. As a result, she regularly provides new resources to support children's learning and to keep the play environment interesting.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder misses some opportunities to help children learn more about one another's lives, to promote their understanding of people and communities further. The childminder does not keep parents consistently up to date regarding their children's next steps for learning to help them promote their children's learning further at home.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

extend the range of opportunities for children to learn more about one another's lives to promote their understanding of the world further keep parents informed more closely of their children's planned next steps for learning to help parents strengthen children's learning at home.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and the quality of the childminder's interaction with the children. The inspector observed the management of children's care routines. The inspector looked at children's assessment records. The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and discussed her knowledge of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The inspector took account of the views of parents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of her role and responsibilities to promote children's welfare. She attends training courses and meets with other professionals to extend her knowledge and to keep up to date regarding changes to requirements. This helps her to protect children from harm. The childminder agrees all aspects of care with parents when children start. This includes obtaining written consent to seek emergency medical treatment or advice. She provides questionnaires to obtain parents' feedback regarding her provision. Parents state the childminder provides a warm and caring environment in which children are safe and make excellent progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder monitors and assesses children's learning effectively from the start. She uses her observations of children to identify any gaps in their learning and plans activities each week to help them progress well in all areas. The childminder interacts to challenge children well. For example, she encouraged older children to name colours and shapes, and to count and identify numerals in their creative play. She helps them to solve problems and celebrates their achievements with them. The childminder skilfully adapts challenges for younger children, for example, by repeating back new words for them to learn and showing them how to use their senses in play. Children join in with enthusiasm and make good progress through the childminder's good quality teaching.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children well in developing positive attitudes and behaviour. She calmly and consistently encourages them to respect one another's choices and feelings and provides a good role model. As a result, children listen well, help when asked and learn to share, and older children show good manners. The childminder provides lots of outdoor play and trips in the local community. This provides opportunities for children to use different physical play equipment, to learn about natural life and to explore new experiences. The childminder uses outings and everyday activities to help children learn about keeping safe, such as road safety and how to manage steps.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children benefit from lots of encouragement and support to persist with challenges, learn new skills and follow their interests. This promotes children's self-confidence and motivation to achieve and helps prepare them effectively for their future learning.
