p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder knows the children well and uses this information to securely meet their needs and plan activities and opportunities that support them to follow their own interests.  The childminder fully understands her responsibilities concerning child protection. She is aware of the safeguarding procedures to follow in order to protect children, including how to report any welfare concerns she may have about a child.  The childminder is caring, positive and encouraging. Children are very settled, secure and form exceptionally close and warm relationships with her.  The childminder supports children's communication and language development well. She constantly talks to the children, and uses this to encourage their language and vocabulary development well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder gathers information when children start and shares some details about children's next steps in learning and ongoing progress with parents. However, this is not always as detailed as it could be to help her plan activities right from the start, involve parents when identifying next steps in learning or to enable parents to consistently extend their children's learning at home.  The childminder observes children but does not always effectively use this to precisely track their progress, in order to promptly identify any gaps in their learning.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the information sharing process with parents, to share more information about children's ongoing progress and help them consistently extend their children's learning at home  develop further the processes for tracking children's progress to be able to identify any emerging gaps in achievement as quickly as possible.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to parents while at the setting to gain their feedback.  The inspector observed the childminder and children playing together.  The inspector sampled documents that the childminder uses to support her practice.  The inspector viewed all areas of the home used for childminding.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder at convenient times during the inspection.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder is aware of how to safeguard children's welfare and provide a safe environment so they can play in safety. The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She evaluates her practice well. This enables her to effectively identify areas for improvement that help improve children's experiences. The childminder works well with parents. She shares information about children's well-being regularly, meaning children benefit from consistent routines and familiarity. The childminder uses her experience and knowledge to ensure that identified concerns in development are raised with parents in order for them to access professional help if needed.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the learning and development requirements. She knows the children well and plans thoughtful and challenging experiences that support children's interests. The quality of the childminder's teaching is good, and she effectively uses this to ensure that she can adapt and change activities to keep children challenged and engaged in their play. For example, while playing with the cars and trains, the childminder used questions to encourage children's mathematical language. Children make their own choices about their play and this helps them develop their independence and confidence. The childminder consistently talks to the children, asking questions and linking their play to their own experiences. This helps develop their sense of self and achievement.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are very confident and secure; they enjoy strong bonds with the childminder. She promotes their self-worth as they confidently explore and investigate her stimulating environment. She is highly effective in promoting children's emotional well-being and clearly understands their individual needs. She is very calm and consistent in her interaction, and children confidently approach her for support and comfort. The childminder supervises the children at all times and ensures they can play in a safe and secure environment. Children behave well. Children are taught the importance of good hygiene practices and independence is encouraged to ensure that children are ready for their next stage in learning. Care routines are carried out sensitively and hygienically to ensure children's physical well-being is met.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are happy and secure, and make good progress. They are encouraged to be independent and gain skills that prepare them well for their next stages in learning.
