This provision is good
The childminder observes children as they play and accurately assesses their current stage of development. She uses this information to plan further experiences to support and extend children's learning. Children demonstrate that they are keen and active learners. The childminder uses effective teaching skills when playing with children. She skilfully interacts with children and gives them time to explore, investigate and develop their ideas. This helps to develop children's problem-solving skills. The childminder effectively supports children's social skills. She teaches children to be kind, respectful and to understand the feelings of others. The childminder takes the time to support children to settle into her home. She works with parents to make sure children feel confident and secure with her. The childminder implements robust systems to safeguard children. She has a good understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Professional development is not sufficiently focused on raising the quality of teaching and learning. The childminder does not always share important new learning that is taking place quickly enough with parents.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder, and discussed the teaching and learning with her. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of all household members, children's records, policies and procedures, and the childminder's qualifications. The inspector spoke to a small selection of parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder ensures her safeguarding knowledge is kept up to date. She understands the procedures to follow if she has concerns about the welfare of a child in her care. The childminder is highly qualified, and uses her knowledge and skills effectively to ensure children make good progress. She effectively identifies and addresses improvements to her practice. However, she has not considered how she can continue to improve her teaching skills that raise children's achievements to the highest level.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her knowledge and experience to successfully promote good learning opportunities. She makes good use of her accurate assessments of children's progress to plan for their next stage of learning. However, she does not always share enough detailed information with parents so they know about the progress their child is making. The childminder effectively supports children's speech development. She listens carefully to what young children say to her and repeats their words correctly for them to hear. She encourages young children to explore sounds. The childminder joins in with children's play, and successfully weaves in opportunities to count and to talk about size and quantity. This is successfully building on children's growing mathematical understanding. Children's early literacy is supported as they listen to regular stories and explore words on the word wall.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming environment. She establishes warm and secure relationships with children and their families. This ensures children have a strong sense of security and belonging. Children's physical development is supported well. They spend time in the garden and go for walks in the park. These regular outings help to promote positive attitudes to exercise and increase children's balance and coordination. Children follow good hygiene routines and enjoy healthy snacks. Children display very good behaviour. The childminder actively supports this through lots of praise and encouragement. The childminder works with the local school to support children as they move on to future learning.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder uses effective teaching strategies to help children become confident and independent learners. Children eagerly participate in a wide range of experiences that successfully promote their learning and skills. The childminder assesses children's abilities when they first start and continues to assess their development. This helps her to accurately plan the next steps in children's learning. Children make good progress given their starting points and are well prepared for school.
