This provision is good
Teaching is good. The childminder has a good awareness of how young children learn. She uses play, planned activities and first-hand experiences, that engage children and build on their individual interests. This supports them to develop positive attitudes to learning. The childminder sets a good example to children. She acts as a good role model by managing children's behaviour effectively, according to their age and stage of development. This supports children to behave well, as they begin to understand boundaries and expectations. The childminder's home is warm and welcoming. She arranges toys and resources attractively to help children make independent choices in their play. Children are confident, self-assured and display good levels self-esteem in their surroundings. The childminder demonstrates a commitment to improving her provision and ensuring it meets the needs of the children and their families. She identifies strengths and areas to

improve and makes meaningful changes that benefit children and their families the most.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not provide enough opportunities for children to explore using all of their senses. The childminder does not consistently ask parents to share information about children's learning when they first attend.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of household members, self-evaluation and documents that support the childminding service. The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector looked at children's assessment records and planning documentation. The inspector took into account parents' views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good understanding of how to protect children and keep them safe from harm. She has attended relevant training and has a clear understanding of the possible indicators of abuse. The childminder has undertaken risk assessments for her home and for outings. The childminder demonstrates a well-organised approach to her role. She clearly understands how to successfully support children's learning and development. The childminder regularly monitors the educational programmes. This helps her to be able to identify and address any gaps in children's learning quickly and provide appropriate support. Partnerships with parents are good. The childminder makes good use of conversations and daily diaries to keep parents informed of their children's learning and care. However, she does not yet maximise opportunities for parents to contribute to

baseline assessments, when children first start in her care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Settling-in sessions are flexible and used effectively by the childminder to establish children's likes, dislikes and routines. The childminder interacts well with children. She uses effective teaching methods, such as repeating words in children's mother tongue to help children extend their communication and language skills. The childminder observes children as they play and plans effectively to meet their individual needs. Children have good small-muscle skills. They use available resources to draw and make marks. Children also enjoy completing simple jigsaw puzzles and posting corresponding shapes in the shape sorters. Children are supported to learn number concepts. They count during everyday routines and sing number rhymes and songs.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are very happy and settled and they enjoy positive relationships and secure attachments with the childminder. The childminder is attentive to children's needs and children happily approach her for comfort and reassurance. Children are confident and self-assured individuals, who explore the learning environment and make independent choices from a good range of age-appropriate resources. However, there are less opportunities for children to develop their exploration skills using all of their senses. The childminder promotes children's good health and well-being. She takes the children out every day, enabling them to be physically active and benefit from fresh air and exercise. Children eat healthily and nappy-changing routines are carried out according to children's individual needs and parents' wishes.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder completes regular and accurate assessments of children. She ensures activities provided are challenging and promote the next steps in their learning well. Children make good progress and are prepared for the next stage in their learning and school.
