This provision is good

 The childminder monitors and assesses children's learning effectively and keeps parents well-informed of their child's development. As a result, children make good progress.  Children are developing excellent behaviour and attitudes towards others. The childminder uses clever strategies to help children manage their behaviour and social skills.  The childminder provides very close support and reassurance. As a result, children feel very safe and secure, and explore with great confidence. This helps to promote children's well-being effectively.  The childminder evaluates and reflects on the quality of her provision. As a result, she prioritises and successfully makes improvements to children's care and learning, such as carrying out effective emergency evacuation procedures.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder has not developed effective partnerships with other early years settings children attend to obtain information about children's learning.  The childminder does not consistently encourage children to develop fully their mathematical skills in their play and everyday activities, for example, to develop an awareness of shapes.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the partnerships with other early years settings children attend to obtain information in order to further promote children's learning in all areas  extend children's mathematical development further during play and their daily activities.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the quality of the childminder's interaction with the children.  The inspector observed the management of children's care routines.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records.  The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and discussed her knowledge of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.  The inspector took account of the views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a secure understanding of her responsibility to promote children's welfare and protect them from harm. The childminder attends many training courses, seminars and meetings with the local authority. This has helped her to develop her skills further and keep up to date regarding changes to the curriculum and safeguarding requirements. The childminder updates her skills to make improvements to children's care and learning. For example, she attended training which has helped her introduce more activities to promote children's communication and language skills effectively.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans children's learning each week in activities they are interested in. She joins in with their play to challenge and encourage them well. For example, at the inspection, children explored natural resources they had found on walks. The childminder encouraged them to use factual guides to find out more about them, and how some might be dangerous to eat. She challenged children to consider which resources were heavier or lighter as they weighed them on scales, to count what they had and to describe their size. As a result of good quality teaching, children enjoy and engage well in play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding

The childminder provides exceptionally well-planned play environments for children. They choose for themselves from an excellent range of toys. Children enjoy extensive outdoor play activities. For example, they play with a wealth of physical play activities, move to music and explore large-scale constructions to learn about movement and distance. Children's health and safety are of paramount importance to the childminder. She maintains very safe and secure environments, and children learn to keep safe in their everyday lives. Children also help to grow the fruits and vegetables for cooking and snack times, developing an excellent attitude to healthy eating. The childminder encourages children to explore one another's lives and home experiences in great depth. For example, children brought special things from home and talked at length about their experiences and news.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children benefit from lots of support and encouragement to build their self-confidence and independence. This motivates them to learn and to take a pride in their achievements, which prepares them well for their future learning.
