This provision is good

 The childminder's teaching skills are strong. She understands how children learn and provides a good range of interesting and exciting activities to help children make progress in their learning.  The childminder uses her environment and resources well to engage children in all aspects of their learning. Her interactions with children keep them interested and support their enthusiasm to learn.  The childminder has a secure understanding of the legal requirements and meets these well. Her policies, procedures and records are well organised and support the good practice in her setting.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although teaching is good overall, children are not always fully supported in learning how to express what they know or to gain confidence to share their ideas fully.  The childminder generally helps children understand their own feelings and how to respect the feelings of their friends. However, younger children find it more difficult to learn to develop tolerance of others.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop teaching skills further to support children more effectively as they attempt to build confidence in sharing their knowledge and ideas with others  increase younger children's awareness of their own and others' feelings and respect for others during play to enhance their learning experiences.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children's play and learning inside and during outdoor play.  The inspector sampled a range of documentation, including children's development records, key policies and procedures, and the childminder's self-evaluation process.  The inspector observed the childminder during an activity and held a discussion with her to discuss teaching practices.  The inspector took account of parents' views through written emails and letters.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder's processes to monitor and evaluate children's learning work well, enabling her to plan successfully for children's learning goals. Partnerships with parents and others involved in children's learning have improved. This has resulted in the collaboration of information which supports better outcomes for children. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder considers a range of child protection issues and ensures she follows the correct procedures. Training has been particularly helpful in ensuring children are safe. The childminder's self-evaluation reflects her overall practice relatively well, helping to identify areas for improvement. The childminder works closely with a co-minder and knows how to access training and information to keep herself up to date.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder knows children well and her activity plans consider the learning needs of each child. She is friendly and encouraging, which enables children to feel enthusiastic about what they are doing. Overall, the childminder uses activities well to support different aspects of learning. For example, children increase their awareness of seasons when sticking with leaves and flowers. This creates topics for discussion, which supports language and introduces children to counting. The childminder finds ways for children to practise early writing skills, such as chalking on paving. She guides younger children as they take tentative steps to stand, cruise around objects and walk, supporting their physical development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder builds strong relationships with children. Overall, she is successful in helping them to understand right from wrong, to learn to respect others and to build friendships. The childminder encourages children to challenge their physical abilities, such as climbing over obstacles. She is on hand to support and guide their understanding of what they can do safely. The childminder creates an environment where children are able to make choices and do things to help themselves. She encourages young babies to feed themselves. Children learn about healthy lifestyles through healthy eating choices and learning good hygiene skills. The children use all the environments available to them to explore, which supports their all-round development.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Overall, children make good progress in their learning and development. They become confident and independent individuals, which supports their readiness for school.
