This provision is good
Children are well cared for by a knowledgeable and experienced childminder, who demonstrates a genuine care and real commitment to her role. The childminder understands and implements the Early Years Foundation Stage well and provides good learning and care for all children. The quality of the childminder's teaching is effective; therefore, children make significant progress in their learning and development. The childminder promotes children's personal and emotional development well; this is evident through the secure and close attachments that they develop with her and their peers. The learning outcomes for children are good. Consequently, they are fast becoming capable and confident learners, and are developing new skills to support their future learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not make the best use of all environments to extend children's experience of technology and learning about how things work in order to extend their knowledge and understanding further.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further

extend opportunities for children to develop their understanding of technology and learn about how things work.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed interactions between the childminder and children as they engaged in activities. The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at a sample of documentation, including children's records and the childminder's policies and procedures. The inspector observed the areas within the home used for childminding. The inspector and childminder jointly observed children at play.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder manages her setting well. Safeguarding is effective. She implements clear policies and procedures to protect children and promote their well-being. She has a good awareness of signs and symptoms that may cause concern and how to make a referral, if needed. She has a positive attitude towards professional development and obtains the views of parents and liaises closely with the local authority to evaluate her provision and teaching practice. She regularly attends training to keep up to date with current changes and uses this knowledge well to adapt her practice to drive forward improvements. The childminder occasionally works with an assistant; she provides effective support and training to ensure her assistant fully understands her role and responsibility.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder uses her experience and knowledge well to provide good-quality learning experiences for children. She plans an interesting and challenging learning environment and offers children opportunities to engage in a broad range of activities across all areas. She implements effective observation and assessment systems to monitor children's progress, and tailors activities to meet children's interests as well as close any gaps in learning. The childminder works well with parents and involves them fully in their children's learning, for example, by using the information they provide to extend children's learning. She understands the benefits of working in partnership with other professionals involved with children to promote continuity in their learning and care.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are happy and content in the childminder's care, and show that they enjoy her company. They behave well and confidently approach her for hugs and cuddles of reassurance. Overall, they make their needs known, and the childminder responds well. Children have good opportunities to learn about themselves, and people from different backgrounds and communities. As a result, children develop a sense of belonging and respect others. The childminder promotes children's health, through healthy meals and the daily care routines. For example, she encourages children to eat a nutritious and balanced diet, including fruits and vegetables and access to regular drinks. Children enjoy access to the outdoor play area to engage in activities to promote their physical well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are developing the necessary skills for their future learning. For example, they develop early social skills as they mix and play with other children, such as through their visits to the playgroup. They benefit from positive engagements with the childminder, who fosters their communication and language skills well, for example, by skilfully asking questions to extend their language development.
