This provision is good
Children thoroughly enjoy the range of fun, interesting and challenging activities the childminder plans for them. They are motivated to learn and make good progress from their starting points. The childminder has a good range of resources to interest the different ages and abilities of individual children. These are easily accessible so children can make independent choices. Children form secure attachments with the childminder and her assistant. This supports them to become confident, settled and they are keen to explore and learn. The childminder's partnerships with other settings that children attend are strong. She works very closely with the key persons at the local pre-school and shares her knowledge of children's individual development and learning. The childminder demonstrates a positive commitment to providing a high-quality provision. She takes time to seek the views of parents. The childminder uses this

information to reflect on and improve the service she provides.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder has not yet fully implemented an ambitious training programme to enhance the good quality care and learning she provides. The childminder does not always give parents examples of how to support children's learning at home to help them make even better progress.

What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about the children's progress and achievements. The inspector viewed the children's development records. The inspector saw evidence of the suitability and qualifications of the childminder and her assistant, viewed self-evaluation, risk assessment, and policies and procedures. The inspector took account of the views of parents from their responses to surveys organised by the childminder.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is alert to any issues or child protection concerns. She implements robust policies and procedures to ensure that children are kept safe. The childminder uses self-evaluation to reflect on her daily practice and to enhance future learning opportunities for children. She is receptive to the information she obtains from her local authority adviser. The childminder has attended necessary training, such as safeguarding and paediatric first aid. Her assistant has also now started to attend relevant training courses. However, the childminder has not yet embedded a programme to continue her own professional development to raise her teaching skills to an outstanding level.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children show high levels of concentration and are eager to learn. The childminder follows and extends children's individual interests to support their future learning. She regularly observes children to recognise their achievements and identify their next steps in learning. The childminder fosters children's imaginative and creative play as they play with a variety of sensory materials. She effectively incorporates counting and learning about the sounds of letters into play and activities. The childminder has established good relationships with parents. They say they are happy with the service they receive. She gathers a good range of information from parents when children first start and gives parents regular feedback about their child's daily achievements. However, information shared with parents does not yet effectively include additional guidance about how they can help support their child's learning at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The development of children's social skills and self-confidence is given high priority. Children's independence in self-care is promoted well and they follow good hygiene routines. They learn to behave responsibly as the childminder gently explains the consequences of their actions. The childminder encourages children to make healthy choices about the food they eat and teaches them about the importance of regular exercise. Children have good opportunities to be physically active and learn about managing risks while they play in the childminder's garden. They also have times to relax and young children are closely monitored as they sleep.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress because the childminder successfully motivates and supports their learning. This includes children who speak English as an additional language. Children develop their independence skills from an early age. This helps prepare them for their next stage in learning and in readiness for starting school. The childminder uses effective methods to monitor children's progress. This enables her to quickly identify any gaps in learning and ensure that no child gets left behind.
