This provision is good

 Children make good progress with their learning and development. The childminder plans good quality activities to promote children's learning.  The childminder is consistent in her approach to behaviour management and children behave well.  The childminder updates her training on a regular basis. She makes sure children can benefit from this with the types of activities she offers.  The childminder has good relationships with the children, which effectively promotes their self-esteem and sense of belonging.  The childminder has a clear understanding of inclusion. For example, she finds out about children's backgrounds and effectively uses this information to plan activities around different festivals and celebrations. This helps to teach children about the wider world around them.  The childminder works closely with the parents, providing good continuity of care. They work closely to set targets for the children to work towards. This enables the

childminder to progress the children's learning and development well.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always organise resources effectively to further promote children's interest in books.  The childminder does not fully promote children's skills during creative activities. For example, she does not always involve them in making decisions and encouraging them to help with the preparation.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 organise how the resources are stored to allow children to independently access them  involve children more in decision making during activities to strengthen their skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed children in the main play area.  The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector sampled documents, including safeguarding policies and procedures.  The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has worked effectively with her local early years team to work on the actions raised at her last inspection in order to improve her practice. The childminder has a clear understanding of child protection procedures and she has updated all of her policies and procedures. She clearly understands her role in protecting the children's welfare. For example, she carries out regular risk assessments and fire drills. This enables children to learn what to do in an event of an emergency. The childminder evaluates her practice well and attends regular training sessions to update her knowledge. This enables her to drive improvement in the quality of care and activities she provides. For example, she now gathers key words in children's home languages and uses picture cards with these, to teach the children English words. This enables children to have an enjoyable time in the care of the childminder and extends their learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder provides her knowledge and training to provide good quality teaching. For example, she works with the parents to assess children's starting points. This enables the childminder to see where the children require support to progress their learning and development. The childminder now tracks children's progress and clearly identifies areas to work on with them. Tracking information shows the children are making good progress from when they first started in the care of the childminder. She works closely with the nurseries children attend. For example, she finds out what they have been learning and extends on this at home. This enables both professionals to progress children's learning and development.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder works with the parents so children receive healthy meals. The children learn about healthy lifestyles. For example, they learn to wash their hands after messy activities and know the reasons why this is important. The childminder extends children's physical well-being effectively; for example, she makes good use of local playgroups and parks. The childminder celebrates children's efforts and achievements. For example, she encourages children who are not keen to participate in creative activities and she actively praises them well for using their hands to make marks. This builds children's self-esteem and confidence to try new experiences.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are making good progress from their starting points. The childminder works well to support children, enabling them to progress to their next stage of development. For example, she promotes children learning English as an additional language well.
