This provision is good
Well-qualified staff know how to promote children's learning. Teaching is consistently good. Staff allow children to direct their own play and use skilful questioning to extend discussions and encourage them to consider and solve problems by themselves. Exciting topics build upon children's interests and help them to develop a positive attitude to learning. Regular outings, such as to the Forest School and walks into the local village, help children to relate what they have learnt to real-life experiences. Partnerships with parents and other providers are well established. Staff work hard to include all those involved with the child when planning for their learning. This includes discussions on their interests, achievements and goals to support a joined-up approach to working and achieve good outcomes for all children. Staff promote children's well-being. children when they start, including their preferred style of learning. They use this to tailor activities and help children to experience a smooth move into the pre-school. Children demonstrate a love of books and recognise that print carries meaning. Staff read stories of interest and children have time to choose and handle books as part of their everyday activity.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Plans to enhance staff's practice even further have not yet been implemented, so their effectiveness cannot be fully evaluated. On occasions, staff do not encourage older children to practise their early writing skills during planned activities.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the provider and held discussions with all other members of staff. The inspector held a meeting with the pre-school provider. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the self-evaluation framework and evidence of the suitability of staff working in the pre-school. The inspector spoke to a large selection of parents and carers during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The enthusiastic provider and her team of staff strive to provide the best quality care for children. They have successfully addressed the previous set action and recommendations. Children's hours of attendance are now accurately recorded and the environment has been enhanced to provide a range of stimulating experiences for children to choose both indoors and outdoors. The provider uses a detailed local authority framework to reflect upon all areas of practice. She welcomes and responds to the views of parents and children as part of this process. For example, adaptations to storage arrangements for pushchairs and other items result in a less congested entrance area for parents as they drop off and collect their children. Regular supervisions and reviews of staff's practice highlight areas for improvement, with the aim of enhancing teaching to an inspirational level. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. A robust recruitment process and

staff induction ensure all those working with children are suitable to do so and are aware of their responsibility to promote children's welfare.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Staff provide a well-balanced learning programme for children. This includes both adult- led and child-chosen activities. They complete short and long observations to devise children's next steps in learning. These are known by all staff and consistently followed through as part of the weekly topic. Children explore the colours of paint as they design their vehicles and have suitable time to finish their chosen tasks. Staff know children well. They choose timely moments to extend children's learning and offer further support as needed, ensuring they are suitably challenged. Children demonstrate a good understanding of the world; they know how things work as they direct remote controlled cars in different directions and detail the roles of people who help us in the community.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children enjoy their time at the pre-school and have developed secure attachments to staff. They arrive eager to learn and show reluctance when it is time to leave. Staff act as good role models. This helps children to learn appropriate ways in which to behave and value their friends' contributions as they take turns during play. Children demonstrate good self-help skills; they collect and put on their own coats and independently wash their hands before all mealtimes. They relish taking on the responsibility of small tasks, such as helping to prepare a variety of nutritious snacks. Children show awareness of risk as they help to check for hazards in the environment and talk about how they would safely cross the road on their walks.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Staff complete precise assessments of children. They use focus activities, recommended by outside specialists, to aid children who need additional support with their speech and language development. This ensures children make good or better progress in readiness for their move on to school.
