This provision is good
All children develop a strong emotional bond with the childminder and her assistant. Children are sensitively supported to feel safe, secure and self-confident. The childminder and her assistant provide excellent role models through their calm, caring and responsive relationships with each other and the children. Children learn to cooperate and care for each other and behave very well. The welcoming, stimulating environment is thoughtfully planned to support children to develop their independence in making choices about their play and in meeting their personal care needs. An interesting range of resources and activities provide developmentally appropriate challenge across all areas of learning. The childminder and her assistant expertly extend children's vocabulary, thinking and learning through their skilful listening, responding and questioning. The childminder's strong understanding of, and commitment to, inclusion ensures the

active promotion of equality and diversity underpins her daily practice.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Monitoring of progress is not always used meticulously to inform the process of self- evaluation in order to ensure good quality teaching is raised to the highest level. Information gathered from parents does not always provide the clearest picture of children's learning and development to enable the childminder to plan precisely for children when they first start.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector viewed all parts of the home used for childminding. The inspector observed the quality of teaching during play and learning activities and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector looked at a sample of children's assessment records and planning documentation. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, including the childminder's policies and procedures and her qualifications and training records. The inspector took into account the views of parents, gathered from speaking to a parent and comments made in children's development records and parental questionnaires.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is fully committed to delivering high-quality care and education for all children. She accesses training and local authority support, and liaises with other professionals to ensure she regularly expands and updates her knowledge. She ensures her assistant continues to develop his knowledge, understanding and skills through access to relevant training and ongoing monitoring, support and information sharing. The childminder continually reflects on her practice and provision, and makes ongoing improvements. For example, the imaginative development of the play shed is based on ideas provided by the children. The childminder has recently developed the use of effective monitoring systems to enhance her knowledge of where individual children need more support or challenge. She is in the process of developing how to use this information to analyse and improve her good teaching even further. Arrangements for safeguarding

are effective as the childminder and her assistant have a very good understanding of their roles and responsibilities in protecting children and keeping them safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and her assistant know the children's levels of development, needs and interests very well. This knowledge is gained through careful observation and ongoing liaison with parents. Accurate, regular assessments are made and summaries of children's progress are shared with parents. Parents are sensitively helped to understand how to support their child's learning and development at home. The childminder quickly identifies any children working below age-related expectations and implements appropriate support to enable them to rapidly improve. She has a thorough understanding of the need to support children who receive additional funding, disabled children and those with special educational needs to make consistent progress. She liaises closely with other professionals to ensure she has the knowledge to do this effectively. Good quality teaching is rooted in a firm understanding of how young children learn. This means children are well prepared
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The sensitive interactions between the childminder, her assistant and the children, in addition to the well-organised environment, ensure that children are always highly motivated and engaged. Clear boundaries support children to develop a strong understanding of acceptable behaviour. Children have regular opportunities to learn about the importance of physical exercise and gain an understanding of risk and keeping safe. Healthy, nourishing meals are provided and children actively learn about healthy eating. For example, through growing their own fruit and vegetables. Settling-in visits are used effectively to develop positive relationships and to gather information from parents about children's interests, daily routines and personal care needs.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress from their starting points. Most children are working comfortably within the developmental range typical for their age. Children are acquiring the skills they need for their future learning and school.
