This provision is good

 The childminder is caring, positive and encouraging. As a result, children are very settled, secure and form exceptionally close and warm relationships with her.  The childminder supports children's communication and language development well. She constantly talks to the children, and this encourages their language and vocabulary development well.  The childminder knows the children well, which enables her to securely meet their needs and plan creative activities and opportunities that support children to follow their own interests.  The childminder fully understands her responsibilities concerning child protection. She is aware of the safeguarding procedures to follow in order to protect children, including how to report any welfare concerns she may have about a child.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder gathers some starting points and shares some details about children's next steps in learning and ongoing progress with parents. However, this is not always as detailed as it could be to help her plan activities right from the start, involve parents when identifying next steps in learning, or to enable them to consistently extend their children's learning at home.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 strengthen the information sharing process with parents, including gathering more detailed starting points and sharing information about children's ongoing progress, to promote greater continuity in the care and learning between the childminder and home.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and children playing.  The inspector viewed all areas of the home used for childminding.  The inspector spoke to parents over the telephone to gain their feedback.  The inspector held discussions with the childminder at convenient times during the inspection.  The inspector sampled documents that the childminder uses to support her practice.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She evaluates her practice well. This enables her to effectively identify areas for improvement that help improve children's experiences. The childminder works well with parents. She shares information about children's well-being regularly, meaning children benefit from consistent routines and familiarity. The childminder's experience and qualifications help her to identify gaps in learning, and she then supports children and parents to access the necessary professional help they may need. This supports parents and promotes positive outcomes for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the learning and development requirements. She effectively assesses children's progress and uses this information to help her track their learning and identify gaps quickly. She uses this to plan thoughtful and challenging experiences that meet children's individual learning needs well. The quality of the childminder's teaching is good, and she effectively uses this to ensure that she can adapt and change activities to keep children challenged and engaged in play. For example, while drawing road maps for children to drive cars on, she introduces plastic bricks to build houses and make bridges. Children make their own choices about their play, which helps them develop their independence and confidence. The childminder consistently talks to the children, asking questions and linking their play to their own experiences. This develops their sense of self and achievement.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children enjoy strong bonds with the childminder. This contributes to their high confidence and promotes their self-worth as they confidently explore and investigate the childminder's stimulating environment. The childminder supervises the children at all times and ensures they can play in safety. She is highly effective in promoting children's emotional well-being and clearly understands their individual needs. She is very calm and consistent in her interactions and children confidently approach her for support and comfort. Children behave well. Children are taught the importance of good hygiene practices and independence is encouraged to ensure that children are ready for their next stage in learning. Care routines are carried out sensitively and hygienically to ensure children's physical well-being is met.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are happy and secure, and make good progress. They are encouraged to be independent and are developing the skills they need in readiness for school.
