This provision is good
The childminder has strong working relationships with parents. She keeps parents well informed about their children's learning and development. This provides a consistent approach to children's learning between the home and the setting. The childminder is very keen to improve her professional knowledge and regularly seeks further training and support. She has recently attended training to help her support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. The childminder is an exceptional role model and teaches children to be kind, polite and use good manners. This helps children to behave extremely well as they learn to respect others and take account of their differences. The childminder provides children with interesting activities that motivate them to learn and assesses their development well. As a result, children make good progress.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not take all opportunities to fully extend children's early knowledge of mathematical concepts such as counting and calculating. Therefore, she does not consistently promote their mathematical development.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:
p.2
What the setting needs to do to improve further
extend everyday opportunities for children to develop their mathematical skills, in particular counting and calculating, to strengthen their learning further in this area.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed children engaged in activities, including children's interactions with the childminder. The inspector looked at a sample of relevant documentation, including children's records. The inspector held discussions with the childminder about her practice. The inspector reviewed parents' feedback by sampling written documents.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The experienced childminder is well qualified. She evaluates her practice well and has addressed the recommendations made in her last inspection. For example, she has a strong commitment to working in partnership with other professionals and has established good links with other local childcare providers. This helps to ensure continuity of care and learning. The childminder monitors children's progress effectively, to ensure that any identified gaps in their learning are narrowing and shares this information with the parents. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a very good understanding of the action to take if she has any concerns about a child's welfare and keeps children safe.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of teaching is good. The childminder carries out regular observations and tracks children's progress to help with their next stage of learning. As a result, children are fully engaged in purposeful play which builds on their interests. The childminder plans stimulating and challenging learning experiences, such as investigating insects and bugs as children explore the natural environment. She skilfully builds on what children know and can do. The childminder plans activities but encourages children to lead and choose their favourite toys and activities. She uses good teaching skills to extend children's language and communication abilities through their daily activities. For example, children enjoyed listening to stories. The childminder promoted children's learning further by asking them relevant questions to make them think and extend their vocabulary. These activities help children to build skills for their future learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder gives high priority to children's emotional development and knows them particularly well. Consequently, children enjoy their time with her and are confident and happy. The childminder teaches children about adopting healthy lifestyles exceedingly well. They understand how to make healthy choices as she talks to children about nutritional foods during mealtimes and role play. Furthermore, she teaches children exceptionally good hygiene rules and ensures children have regular fresh air. Children display high levels of independence during activities as they help to tidy up, such as sweeping the rice and glitter from the floor as the childminder talks to them about safety.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children make good progress in their learning because the childminder uses good teaching strategies. For example, she uses effective assessment systems to plan for children's next steps in learning. Children are very actively engaged in stimulating and challenging activities and are independent learners. As a result, children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning or their move to school.
