This provision is good
The childminder provides children with a range of interesting activities and resources that promote their learning across the curriculum. As a result, children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder supports children to understand good behaviour and teaches them to develop respectful relationships with other children and adults. For example, she models good manners and encourages children to take turns during play. Parents benefit from secure partnerships with the childminder. She shares information and works closely with parents to learn about what their children can do at home. She develops individual plans with parents to help their child to settle. Consequently, parents report that they have trusting relationships with the childminder and that she is flexible to meet their family needs. The childminder is qualified to level 3. Her knowledge and understanding of child

development help her to plan effectively for children's learning. The childminder reflects on what she does regularly and identifies her strengths and areas for development. For example, she has identified training to develop her knowledge to extend the experiences that she offers to children outside.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always enable children to choose freely from the wide range of resources. Therefore, they cannot always easily follow their interests and build on their learning. The childminder does not consistently provide a range of materials and tools. Consequently, children do not frequently experiment and explore a wide range of materials to extend their imaginations and practise skills for early writing.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities available in the inside and outside play areas. The inspector held discussions with the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector carried out a joint observation. The inspector sampled a range of documents including children's learning records, policies and procedures. The inspector spoke with parents and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of her role and responsibilities. She implements effective policies and procedures to promote partnerships with parents and ensure the smooth running of the setting. She attends statutory training, including safeguarding, and keeps up to date with changes in legislation and requirements. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the local procedures if she was concerned about a child's welfare. She makes regular observations and assessments and uses these to monitor and promote children's learning from the outset. She has a strong commitment to working with other professionals and understands the importance of forming links with other settings, such as pre-schools, to ensure continuity in children's care and learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of teaching is good. The childminder has a secure understanding of how children learn and uses effective strategies to plan for and extend their learning. For example, she invites children to join in with songs and uses simple questions to promote young children's thinking skills. She listens carefully to what children say and responds skilfully to develop their learning and self-esteem. She repeats key words and praises children's attempts at new language. Children have good listening skills and are keen to interact. They are confident communicators and express their needs. Children have opportunities to develop their physical skills as they turn pages of books that they share with the childminder, investigate construction blocks and shapes, and explore outdoors. The childminder responds quickly to reshape activities and keep children engaged to promote continued learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children are cared for in a nurturing environment. The childminder builds relationships with children swiftly to develop their confidence and sense of security. She knows children well and responds effectively to their emotional and personal care needs. She introduces young children to healthy lifestyles from the outset and encourages children to benefit from a healthy diet and good hygiene routines. Children share the childminder's passion for play outdoors and have daily opportunities to be physically active in the garden and on visits to local parks. The childminder takes children to local toddler groups to meet new people and learn to play with children of different ages and backgrounds. This supports children's understanding of the world and the community they live in.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress from their starting points to gain the skills they need for their next steps in learning, including school. Children are motivated and curious to explore and learn.
