This provision is good
The well-qualified childminder knows the children well and uses her good knowledge to deliver an educational programme that meets their individual needs. This helps children to be engaged and enthusiastic learners and make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder has developed positive relationships with other childminders in the local area, which enables her to share ideas and discuss best practice. This helps to support children to develop their social skills as they learn to mix with other children and adults. The childminder is very caring, sensitive and skilled in helping children to feel settled and to form secure emotional attachments. This nurtures their confidence and emotional well-being. The childminder drives for continuous improvement and is committed to developing her provision. She involves children and parents in this process so she can provide good care and education for children.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not fully engage all parents to share information about their children's learning at home so that a more consistent approach can be established. The childminder does not place sharp focus on helping children who speak English as an additional language to make best use of their home language.

Inspection activities
The inspector had a tour of the childminder's home. The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times throughout the inspection. The inspector observed play and learning opportunities for the children. The inspector looked at policies, children's personal profiles and a range of other documentation, including evidence of qualifications and suitability of household members. The inspector and childminder undertook a joint observation of an activity. The inspector took into account the written views of parents. The inspector discussed self-evaluation and how the views of parents and children are included to drive improvement.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has kept up to date with mandatory training, such as paediatric first aid and attends other relevant training. She uses this good knowledge to develop her service and meet children's needs. The childminder completes regular observations of children's progress to recognise their achievements and identify their next steps in learning. However, strategies to engage parents in contributing to the learning process are not yet highly successful. This means the childminder is unable to take this into account to plan complementary learning experiences to further support children's next steps in learning. The childminder has developed a good relationship with local primary schools. This promotes positive partnerships and enables them to share relevant information to support children with their future moves. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is fully aware of who to contact should she have concerns about a child's
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder use good teaching skills to introduce mathematical language. She provides interesting activities to help children develop their knowledge of numbers and colours. She encourages children to be involved in imaginative play. Literacy is well supported. Children learn about different cultures through a wide range of activities, discussions and resources. This helps them understand the importance of respecting each other's differences. Children who speak English as an additional language are generally well supported in their growing communication and language skills in English. The childminder chats to children as they play and introduces new words to extend their vocabulary.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder provides a welcoming environment where children play happily. The environment enables children to initiate their own play as they select their own resources from a variety of easily accessible toys. Good settling-in procedures are in place and the childminder gathers a good range of information from parents when children first start. The childminder acts as a positive role model and promotes the use of good manners. She continuously offers praise for children's achievements which helps to motivate them and effectively raise their self-esteem. The childminder provides nutritious home-cooked meals and children benefit from fresh air and physical exercise during regular outdoor play. This contributes towards children's understanding of a healthy lifestyle.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children's progress is accurately assessed and any gaps in their learning are quickly identified so that additional support may be implemented. Children have many opportunities to develop their independence and confidence throughout the day. This supports children to make good progress and to acquire the key skills required for their next stage in learning, including school.
