This provision is good

 The childminder effectively gathers the views of parents to help her in identifying areas to improve. Parents' feedback is very positive and demonstrates the good relationships that have been established.  The childminder develops children's communication and language skills effectively. This helps younger children to start to talk in sentences and supports older children to use a wider range of words.  The childminder knows individual children well and provides lots of reassurance and attention for each child. This helps children to be emotionally secure in the childminder's care.  The childminder effectively supports children's social skills. This helps children to build their confidence in new situations.  Children have daily opportunities for play outdoors and the childminder supports their physical development effectively. This contributes to children's physical well-being and helps them to be active in their play.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always make the most of the information gathered about children's learning from other settings that children attend.  The childminder has not fully extended opportunities for children to enhance their early reading skills.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 make better use of the exchange of information with other settings children attend to complement and build on their learning  extend opportunities for children to develop their early reading skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times and discussed self- evaluation.  The inspector considered the views of parents and children.  The inspector looked at relevant documentation relating to the Early Years Foundation Stage provided by the childminder.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has recently undertaken safeguarding training to help her in developing her knowledge. This supports her to implement effective measures to safeguard children in order to minimise any possible risks. The childminder holds an appropriate early years qualification. This has effectively developed her knowledge and understanding of the different ways in which children learn. The childminder's good knowledge of how children learn helps her in effectively monitoring the learning that takes places through the activities she offers. She is then able to ensure that children have opportunities to learn in all areas. The childminder engages in professional development activities to help her in effectively driving forward improvements. This helps her in continuing to meet the needs of children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder effectively supports children's growing imaginations. This helps children engage effectively in make-believe play. The childminder has established relationships with other settings children attend and holds general discussions with them. However, the childminder does not always make the best use of the partnerships she has with other settings that children attend, to work together on children's next steps in learning. The childminder successfully extends children's understanding of mathematics. This supports children to experiment with quantity and weight. The childminder has not fully considered a wide range of methods to enhance children's early reading skills.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder effectively supports children's growing independence. This helps children to become competent in undertaking tasks for themselves and managing their own personal needs. The childminder uses a good range of methods to support children to understand about changes that are going to happen. This helps children to be confident when changes take place, such as the move to school. The childminder has established an effective routine that promotes good hygiene. This helps children to learn about healthy lifestyles. The childminder effectively supports children's understanding of how to keep themselves safe. This helps children to think about how to behave appropriately.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The childminder is a good teacher and plays alongside children, developing their knowledge, understanding and skills. This helps all children make good progress in their learning and development. The childminder provides children with a good range of experiences across all seven areas of learning. This supports children in acquiring the key skills required for school.
