This provision is good

 The childminder has good teaching skills and a secure understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She provides interesting and enjoyable experiences that meet the needs of children and ensure they make good progress.  Children are happy and show high levels of belonging and self-esteem. Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder provides a welcoming and stimulating environment for children. She has a range of policies and procedures to help her manage her provision and guide her practice. She organises the play space and resources effectively, which enables children to make independent choices about their play. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective as the childminder has a secure knowledge of child protection and the welfare requirements. She carries out risk assessments and completes regular checks of the environment to ensure that it is safe for children. The childminder is committed to continuous improvement and she uses the views of parents and children in the evaluation of her practice. The childminder understands the importance of establishing links with other settings children may attend. She recognises the importance of sharing information about children's learning to ensure that children receive continuity and consistency in their

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder uses her experience and knowledge of how children develop to ensure all children make good progress in their learning. She regularly observes and assesses their learning and uses this information to provide suitable activities. Consequently, children are engaged and motivated as they play. The activities help children to develop their skills and understanding. However, the childminder is sometimes too eager to engage children in a wide range of activities. This means that, at times, she moves them on too quickly. Children enjoy books and the childminder introduces new vocabulary, which promotes their communication and language skills well. Opportunities to develop mathematical concepts, such as shapes and counting, are included as they play and in daily routines. The childminder communicates effectively with parents and this ensures they work together to address any gaps in children's learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are happy, secure and settled in this well-organised setting. The experienced childminder has effective settling-in procedures, which help children to form strong bonds with her. Children express their wants and choices clearly, demonstrating confidence and a feeling of safety in the environment. The childminder is highly responsive to children's needs, while providing them with good opportunities to be independent. Children receive praise and encouragement from the childminder to reinforce their positive actions. They enjoy playing outside in the fresh air and benefit from healthy food choices. Children behave well and are kind and caring to each other.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children are self-assured and demonstrate self-confidence. They make good progress from their starting points and show an eagerness to learn. Children are well prepared for the next stage of their learning and for school.
