This provision is good
Partnerships with parents are strong. The childminder regularly shares information about children's learning, development and achievements. She seeks the views of parents as part of her evaluation process. The childminder completes regular and precise assessments of children's learning and development. This helps to ensure all children make good progress in their learning and that any gaps in their development are swiftly identified. The childminder knows the children well. She has established warm and caring relationships that help to support children's emotional well-being and confidence. The childminder is a good role model. She promotes positive behaviour and regularly uses praise to reward children's achievements. Children's safety is given a high priority. The childminder completes regular risk assessments when taking children on outings and ensures hazards within the home are minimised.
p.1

The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector held a meeting with the childminder. She looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of adults living on the premises. The inspector took account of the views of parents during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder completes an accurate self-evaluation and identifies priorities for improvement, including enhancing the provision that is available to children outdoors. She displays a commitment to her ongoing professional development by undertaking further childcare qualifications. She ensures her assistant receives mandatory training and this helps to promote the safety and welfare of the children within her care. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder is confident of the procedures to follow should she have a concern about the welfare of a child in her care. The childminder regularly reviews her policies and procedures to ensure that these comply with the current guidance and legislations. She has established good links with local schools and shares information relating to children's learning and development. This helps to support children during their move to school and on to the next stage in their learning.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is well qualified and has a secure understanding of how young children learn and develop. The childminder plans a range of activities and experiences for children to take part in that are based on their next steps in learning and their interests. However, occasionally the childminder tends to over direct children and completes tasks for them that they are capable of completing themselves. The childminder uses a range of effective strategies to promote children's developing language and communication skills. She repeats words back to younger children and models language regularly during play. Children have access to a wide range of good quality resources in a stimulating and well- planned environment. The childminder completes regular observations and summaries of children's learning and shares these with parents. However, opportunities for parents to share detailed information from home to support children's learning even further are not
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children have established close relationships with the childminder and she understands their individual needs well. She supports children to develop their personal and social skills well and encourages sharing and turn taking. Children are confident and make requests about the things they would like to do, such as playing outdoors or reading books. The childminder provides good opportunities for children to develop their physical skills. She regularly takes children on trips to local parks, forests and community groups. This helps to widen children's experiences. Children have a healthy diet and are encouraged to follow good hygiene routines. Children's achievements are rewarded.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children make good progress in their learning and development in relation to their starting points. The childminder takes time to review children's progress after any periods of absence and uses initial observations to establish starting points.
