This provision is good
The childminder uses effective teaching techniques. She offers children a wide range of structured activities and play opportunities. These support them in making good progress in their learning. The childminder uses effective questions to extend children's vocabulary and promote their communication skills. Children are able to share conversations and wait for responses from others before talking. Children have trusting and affectionate relationships with the childminder. They demonstrate that they are happy in her care as they easily approach her for support and enjoy her relaxed manner. Consequently, they play confidently, enjoy their learning and make good progress in their development. Children benefit from exciting opportunities to develop their physical skills through daily opportunities to play in the garden and on regular visits to the park and nature walks. The childminder builds good partnerships with parents. She talks with them about

activities and successfully supports them in extending their children's learning at home.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Partnerships with some other settings are not fully explored to share children's learning more extensively and offer more consistency in making the best possible progress.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities in the house and garden and talked with the childminder. The inspector and childminder jointly evaluated a teaching activity. The inspector viewed the areas of the premises and garden used for childminding. The inspector looked at children's assessment records, planning documentation, evidence of suitability of household members and a range of other documentation, including the safeguarding procedures. The inspector reviewed the childminder's self-evaluation form.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of safeguarding policies and procedures and is aware of her responsibilities in this respect. The childminder has a clear understanding of her responsibilities to meet the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She shows a true commitment to making continuous improvements to her service. She takes into consideration the views of parents and children and uses these to make successful changes. The childminder updates her knowledge and skills continuously through training and shares information within a childminding network. Parents make very positive comments about the childminder's service. They appreciate the flexible approach towards their children's care. However, the childminder has not established effective partnerships with all other settings that children attend, in order to support consistent approaches to
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides an interesting and stimulating environment, both indoors and outside. She knows children well, and ensures there is a good balance of planned and spontaneous play opportunities. Children receive good attention, have fun and are making good progress. Accurate observations show how children are developing consistently in their expected development bands and are acquiring skills for their next steps in learning. The childminder promotes children's communication and language skills well. She enthusiastically joins in their play, encouraging conversation and enabling children to talk about what they know. The childminder introduces counting, shape and colour recognition and early writing opportunities into activities. As a result, the childminder supports children's development well and provides a solid base for future progress and learning experiences as they move on to their next stage in learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children settle well in this calm environment. They build positive relationships with the childminder and other children. The childminder ensures children play safely through close supervision and guidance. She encourages parents to send healthy meals for their child and the childminder talks to them about healthy eating. The childminder is a good role model through being happy, calm and kind towards children. She manages behaviour positively using praise and encouragement, and is consistent in her approach. As a result, children's behaviour is good.
p.3
Outcomes for children
Children are making good progress and are working comfortably within the range of development typical for their age. The childminder promotes children's independence and self-care skills well. For example, she encourages children to feed and dress themselves, and use the toilet with minimal support. These skills help to prepare children for the move on to nursery and school.
