 Children are very polite and considerate towards each other. They form good relationships with the childminder and their friends as they all feel valued and included.  The childminder interacts very well with children as they play. She increases their communication skills and extends their learning. For example, she models language and involves them in discussions.  The childminder uses effective assessment procedures to identify the progress children make and plan for the next steps in their learning. She supports children to make good progress and prepares them well for the next stage in their learning and school.  Children's safety and health is supported well due to effective procedures followed by the childminder. For example, she involves children in games and activities that teach them how to keep themselves safe.  The childminder works closely with her co-childminder to reflect on their practice and

identify areas for improvement. She seeks feedback from parents and attends seminars and training to increase her skills to improve the outcomes for children's learning.  Children confidently use numbers in their play. The childminder's good use of questioning helps children to solve problems and use simple calculation.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Although children make marks using different resources during planned activities, they are not always provided with the tools they need to practise early writing during their play.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 provide more opportunities for children to experiment with early writing during their play, to further promote their literacy skills.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder's interactions with the children.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and a sample of other documentation, including policies and procedures.  The inspector took account of the childminder's self-evaluation and written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements and promotes children's care and learning needs well. The childminder continually improves her practice and provides children with consistently good levels of support for their learning and development. She has recently implemented new procedures to monitor children's learning and development. This, along with knowledge gained during training, means she is able to assess the success of the curriculum for all children and plan accurately for their individual progress. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder updates her knowledge through training. She is confident with procedures and taking prompt action in the event of a concern, to keep children safe.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children enjoy their learning due to the enthusiastic and skilful interactions of the childminder. She poses questions and encourages children to try things out, increasing their willingness to explore and experiment. For example, children experimented with adding water to the dry sand to find out if this made better sandcastles. The childminder encourages children's language very well. For example, she prompts children to describe what they are doing and why. Children are confident to suggest their own ideas to solve problems, demonstrating how independent they are becoming. For example, when painting outdoors, children suggested placing paint pots on the corners of their paper, to stop it from blowing away. Play space, indoors and out, provides children with many different learning opportunities and enables them to make choices in their play.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children settle well as they feel safe and secure with the childminder. The childminder forms strong relationships with parents and understands children's care and learning needs very well. Children receive lots of praise and encouragement, which helps them feel proud of their achievements. They learn to value and respect each other, and have opportunities to gain social skills, for example, when they attend toddler groups. The childminder regularly reviews safety to ensure the environment is suitable for all those attending. Children are polite and understand boundaries and expectations, many of which help them to learn how to keep safe. Good routines followed by the childminder and children help to promote children's health. Older children help themselves to tissues and wet wipes as they play outdoors, understanding the importance of keeping themselves clean and healthy.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

The outcomes for children's learning are good. Children benefit from a wide range of well- planned fun activities and learning experiences, making them inquisitive and keen to learn.
