This provision is good

 Children develop a strong bond with the childminder and form good relationships with other minded children. They are very happy and confident, and settle well.  The childminder extends children's language development very well. She listens attentively and responds positively to what children have to say, giving them confidence in using language to communicate.  The childminder promotes children's welfare effectively. She provides a safe and secure environment, follows good hygiene routines and teaches children how to stay safe and healthy.  The childminder works closely with her co-childminder to reflect on her practice to help her identify areas for improvement. She attends training and seminars, and accesses information to help her increase her knowledge and skills to benefit children's learning.  Children are keen to find out about the world around them. The childminder responds to their questions and further promotes their curiosity, for example, through

discussions, and use of books and the internet to research children's interests further.  Assessments of children's learning enable the childminder to track children's progress effectively, and identify and plan well for their next steps.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 Parents do not receive sufficiently detailed information about the activities the childminder plans for children. This means that they do not always have the information they need to fully enable them to further extend children's learning at home.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 provide parents with more detailed information about planned activities, to support them to be more involved in extending children's learning further at home.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities in the childminder's home.  The inspector spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector looked at children's records, planning documentation and a sample of other documentation, including policies and procedures.  The inspector took account of the childminder's self-evaluation and written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is proactive in seeking feedback from parents about the service she offers. This, along with her own evaluations, helps her to identify and address areas for improvement. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a very secure understanding of the procedures to follow in the event of a child protection concern. This helps her to keep children safe. The childminder frequently monitors the progress children make and reflects on the curriculum she offers to ensure she meets the needs of all children. The childminder forges links with other settings that children attend to help promote consistency in their care and learning.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Children are motivated and keen to learn. This is because activities are interesting and reflect children's learning needs and preferences well. The childminder skilfully adapts activities and her interactions to ensure she provides just the right levels of support and challenge for each child. She is actively involved in children play, extending their learning successfully. For example, when children use single words to identify they want to play hide and seek, she responds by positively modelling sentences to increase their confidence and understanding of language. Good use of indoor and outdoor areas increases the variety of play opportunities children have. This means that children are able to play in a way that suits them. They are able to make many choices, selecting from the wide range of easily accessible toys and resources.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are confident and settle well. They receive warm reassurance from the childminder. They are very polite and build good friendships as they learn to consider and respect each other. The childminder ensures all children feel valued and included. Their creative work and photographs are on wall displays and coat pegs. Children develop a strong sense of belonging. The childminder is quick to praise children for their efforts and achievements. This helps them to feel proud and confident to have-a-go. The play environments are well organised for children to play and explore safely. Children learn about safety, for example, as they play a traffic light game. They learn skills for later life to help them keep themselves safe. Children benefit from tasty home-cooked meals and nutritious snacks that reflect their individual dietary needs. They grow some vegetables in the garden, helping them to recognise the benefits of a healthy diet.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress and enjoy their learning. They gain confidence and are increasingly independent, preparing them well for the next stage in their learning.
