This provision is good

 The childminder has a clear vision for future improvement. She works hard to continually enhance her provision. Children learn in a welcoming, well-planned and exciting environment.  The quality of teaching is good. The childminder makes good use of accurate checks of children's progress to plan the next steps in their learning. She has good relationships with parents. She works closely with them and gives children a good start to their learning and development.  Children of all abilities make good progress in their personal development. They share, take turns and play happily together. They behave very well and feel safe and cared for.  The childminder has good links with local schools and other early years providers. She ensures that children are well prepared for the next stage in their learning, including school.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always help children to develop their vocabulary as much as possible.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 make better use of opportunities to develop children's growing vocabulary further.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed teaching indoors and outdoors, and the impact this has on learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector discussed the provision with the childminder.  The inspector looked at documentation, such as self-evaluation and evidence of the suitability of staff.  The inspector reviewed feedback from parents and took account of their views.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is well organised and ambitious for the children's success. She keeps her knowledge and skills up to date. The training she has undertaken has had a positive impact on improving the quality of teaching. Safeguarding procedures are effective. There are good procedures to keep children safe and identify and address any concerns. The childminder works closely with other local early years providers, particularly her co- childminder and the local school. They develop their planning together and share resources. There are strong relationships with parents. The childminder makes good use of parents' knowledge to plan for children's future learning. The childminder accurately reflects on her practice and takes positive steps towards continuous improvement.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder tracks children's progress closely and plans carefully for their next steps in learning. Parents are well informed about their children's progress. The childminder shares detailed diaries and provides regular feedback. Activities are well planned and meet children's learning needs. The childminder uses a range of strategies to promote progress in all aspects of their learning. However, she sometimes fails to build fully on children's emerging vocabulary. For example, when children show an interest in a particular topic, she doesn't help them to learn and understand new words associated with the theme. Children are motivated to learn. The childminder has high expectations of them. She provides an attractive and well-resourced learning environment, both indoors and outside.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children and babies are happy. They feel very secure and their personal development is good. Children learn about the diversity of the world around them. They enjoy role play and art, and learn about different faiths and festivals. The childminder effectively encourages children to share and take turns. Older children take a pride in helping younger ones, for example, when ordering and sorting the furniture in the doll's house. They are polite and well mannered in response to the consistent example set and the guidance given by the childminder. Children have a good understand of health and hygiene. They explain, 'when I wash my hands the germs go'.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children of all abilities, including disabled children and those with special educational needs, make good progress from their individual starting points. They largely work at the level expected for their age, and by the time they leave they are well prepared for the next stage in their education. The childminder ensures that any gaps in children's learning are quickly and effectively addressed. Children are happy, busy and inquisitive.
