This provision is good
Teaching is good. The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn through play. She plans activities that children enjoy and are interested in. This helps children to develop the skills necessary to be ready for their future learning at nursery or school. Friendly relationships exist with parents and the childminder maintains regular communication with them. For example, she sends parents text messages and shares some information about their children's welfare and learning. Parents' comments are complimentary and praise the childminder's friendly and professional manner. Children's emotional well-being is promoted well, and they thoroughly enjoy their time in the childminder's home. They are very happy in her care and form strong bonds and secure relationships. The childminder has developed good links with the local primary school and understands the importance of sharing relevant information with teachers and other
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Strategies to encourage all parents to share detailed information about their child's learning at home are not yet fully developed. The childminder is yet to devise an ambitious framework for continually improving her professional knowledge, aimed at achieving outstanding practice.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed activities and evaluated these jointly with the childminder. The inspector looked at children's records, observation and assessment files, and a selection of policies. The inspector spoke to the childminder and the children throughout the inspection. The inspector took account of parents' views, through written documentation they had provided for the inspection. The inspector checked evidence of the childminder's qualification and the suitability of all adults living and working in the home.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder has a good understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder has attended relevant training, and knows who to contact should she have concerns about children in her care. She affords a high priority to safety and this contributes towards her home being safe and secure. The childminder checks children's progress to identify any gaps in their learning and address them quickly. In addition, she also checks on the performance of her assistant. The childminder reviews her strengths and areas of her practice to develop. However, the plans for professional development are not ambitious or focused enough to raise the overall quality of teaching and care practices to an outstanding level.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder actively joins in children's play. Through their play she supports children to gain many of the skills they will need in later life. For example, as children draw around their hands they count how many fingers they can see. Children's language is developing as they respond to questions posed by the childminder. The childminder actively encourages them to try new experiences, think through their ideas and find ways to solve problems. The childminder gathers information from parents about their children's individual needs, preferences and interests. She also observes children to find out what they know, enjoy and can do. By doing this, she establishes children's starting points and is able to plan experiences that interest and engage children. However, the childminder does not always continue to obtain information from parents about their children's experiences and achievements at home.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder makes good use of settling-in visits to get to know children and their parents. Children settle quickly and feel safe and secure in her care. Children display very good behaviour and this is actively encouraged through lots of praise and encouragement. The childminder provides children with a positive role model to follow and is calm and consistent. She encourages children to share and show respect for people and property and children show good levels of self-esteem. Children follow good hygiene procedures, and enjoy healthy and nutritious meals and snacks. These help to support children's good health. Children enjoy lots of physical exercise and fresh air and regularly go on outings to local parks and community groups. These experiences help to promote positive attitudes to exercise and increase children's social skills, confidence, balance and coordination.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are happy and progressing well. They eagerly participate in a wide range of experiences that successfully promote their learning and skills. This contributes to their readiness for school.
