This provision is good
The childminder effectively observes children and assesses their levels of development. She regularly reviews their progress, in order to plan for their learning and she can identify when children's progress is less than expected. The childminder works closely with parents when children have gaps in their learning. She shares ways of helping children to progress and she knows how to access support from external agencies if needed. The childminder knows when to direct children's learning and when to allow them the freedom to explore. She is skilled in observing children and giving them suggestions to extend their play. This prompts children to concentrate for longer and think about new ideas. The childminder has a good knowledge of how to get children ready for the next stage in their development, including school. She has a strong focus on providing early experiences for the youngest children which link to the skills that they will eventually

need for school. Children show curiosity about number from an early age. The childminder uses numerals in the environment and encourages children to count as they play. Children feel happy and secure because the childminder has built strong emotional attachments with them. They enjoy her company and look for her to share their fun.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not involve parents in her assessment of their children's starting points. The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to develop children's thinking skills.

p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector held discussions with the childminder, including about her self-evaluation. She looked at relevant documentation and evidence of the suitability of adults living at the premises. The inspector spoke to parents during the inspection and took account of their views.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder is experienced, well qualified and motivated to provide the best for children. She is committed to her own professional development to support children's good progress. The childminder evaluates her practice well and she knows what she needs to do to improve. She has effective procedures in place to keep children safe and the arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder talks with parents about children's routines and their welfare to help them to settle quickly. However, she does not gather and use information from parents about children's learning and development to support her assessment of their starting points. The childminder communicates with the schools that children will attend, so she is able to prepare them effectively.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder provides a broad range of rich and stimulating experiences for children. She quickly gets to know what motivates them and she has a good understanding of how to plan experiences that link to their interests. As a result, children's levels of engagement are high and they are motivated to learn. The childminder effectively supports children's speech development during her regular communication with them. She listens carefully to what young children say and she repeats their words correctly for them to hear. Children enjoy making marks outdoors and they are encouraged to explore different materials. The childminder knows how to help children to value differences and recognise that other cultures and traditions are equal to their own. The childminder asks a range of questions to probe children's understanding. However, she does not always give children sufficient time to think before moving on to the next question.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
Children respond well to the childminder's rules and expectations. They follow her clear routines and their behaviour is very good. The childminder encourages children to play together cooperatively, respect others and take turns. She is a good role model and she helps them to learn how to keep themselves safe. Children are motivated to be independent during self-care routines and when playing. They show confidence in accessing their own resources and they feel reassured by the childminder's encouragement to do things by themselves. The childminder praises children and they feel proud of their achievements. Children enjoy a balanced, healthy menu which the childminder plans according to their dietary needs. The childminder encourages a love of the outdoors and children engage in regular exercise to support their physical well-being.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder has good teaching skills which help children to make good progress. She understands how children learn and she provides experiences that are challenging. Children who have starting points which are lower than expected, make particularly good progress.
