This provision is good

 The childminder provides a secure and caring environment for all children. This promotes children's ongoing development well, so they make good progress and they learn to respect one another.  Children have good opportunities to learn about the natural world, the changing seasons, growth and decay. This is because the childminder plans well for children to discover and experience a range of activities relating to the environment.  Children are kept safe due to the childminder's positive practices. She has a good understanding and knowledge of safeguarding and child protection procedures. She checks her environment daily and removes hazards so that children learn and play safely.  The childminder communicates well with parents. She uses a variety of ways to keep them up to date, so they know what their children are doing and how they are progressing.  Children are well supported in their learning, as they are confident and develop good

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 At times, the younger children have fewer opportunities to engage in activities or play that consistently promotes their curiosity and exploration.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 improve and promote experiences further for young children to explore and extend their curiosity.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and spoke to the childminder and children at appropriate times during the inspection.  The inspector viewed the areas of the house and garden used for childminding.  The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of household members and a range of other documentation, including safeguarding procedures and the attendance register.  The inspector took into account the views of parents from their written feedback.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records and discussed the childminder's planning methods with her.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is experienced and has a good knowledge of how children learn. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder regularly updates her knowledge and knows who to contact if she has any concerns about children's welfare. The childminder regularly uses an effective system to evaluate the service she provides. She listens to parents' requests and ideas to help her develop her practice. The childminder communicates with other early years providers to share information and knowledge. She develops teaching skills with regular training; for example, a course improved how she supported communication and language development for younger children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder effectively supports the development of all children and plans activities to meet their individual learning needs. She bases these on children's interests and makes them challenging, so children are eager to learn. This helps them practise important skills that prepare them for the next stage in their learning. The childminder makes sure she supports children of all ages so they engage well in activities. For example, babies actively played with musical instruments, as the childminder offered lots of praise and support to motivate them. The childminder's close relationships with parents help provide a joint approach and consistency for children's learning and development. The childminder routinely assesses and monitors children's development so she quickly identifies any learning gaps to address.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder successfully creates an environment that fosters mutual respect for others. Therefore, children are settled and emotionally secure. She praises their efforts and achievements, which encourages their good behaviour. Children play cooperatively together, share and take turns. They develop an awareness of how to keep themselves safe. For example, children know to tidy up and they take part in regular emergency evacuation drills. Children have good opportunities to be physically active, for example, as they use the garden or go on plenty of trips to local parks and farms. They learn about being healthy and the childminder provides nutritious meals and snacks. Children quickly learn to be independent, for example, as they pour their drinks and wash their hands.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children make good progress. Children develop the key skills they need for the move on to school. Their communication and language development develops well, for example, as young children learn new words and show understanding. Children learn useful personal skills; for example, they know how to put on their coats and shoes.
