She makes sure that her teaching is effective and enables every child to achieve.  The childminder competently reflects on her practices and makes improvements that benefit children. For example, she recently extended her awareness of healthy eating for children. Her increased knowledge enables her to provide meals that help promote children's good health.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not consistently provide a wide range of materials for children to explore, so that they can discover and learn about the world around them.  The childminder does not always organise her good range of resources so that all children can easily and independently make choices. This means children are less able to initiate their own play at such times.

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She implements the legal requirements well. This contributes to children's safety and welfare. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of what to do if she has a child protection concern. She regularly updates her safeguarding training to ensure she is fully aware of current procedures. The childminder keeps children safe as she identifies and minimises hazards effectively. She forms good partnerships with parents that help to promote consistency of care for children. The childminder increases her teaching knowledge and skills by doing research, seeking advice and attending training courses. For example, following a course on creativity, the childminder increased the range of craft activities. As a result, children have become more confident and interested in expressing their ideas through craft activities.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder gets to know children's abilities and interests well. She makes good use of children's interests to extend their play and learning. The childminder interacts skilfully with children as they play and encourages them to have a go at new experiences. They respond well to her encouragement and become confident learners who learn new skills. Young children enjoy exploring toys and working out what happens when they press the buttons. The childminder extends children's communication skills effectively when she talks to them. She repeats and reinforces words with them. This increases children's language skills well. The childminder keeps parents well informed about children's progress. Parents are also involved in promoting children's learning at home.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder promotes children's health and well-being competently. Children develop a good understanding of the importance of healthy lifestyles through everyday practices and planned activities. They form strong emotional bonds with the childminder. Children are very confident and enjoy investigating their surroundings. The childminder builds children's self-esteem when she encourages them and celebrates their achievements. The childminder has good strategies for teaching children how to manage their feelings and behaviour. As a result, children learn to respect others and value differences. This helps increase children's good social skills.

p.3
