This provision is good

 The childminder is warm and caring, and children form close bonds with her. As a result, children are happy and settled. The childminder supports children to manage their behaviour. Children respond positively and behave well as they learn to play together, sharing and taking turns.  The childminder promotes children's independence very well. She consistently praises them, which raises their confidence and self-esteem.  The childminder provides a safe and secure environment in which children can play and explore confidently and safely.  The childminder has good partnerships with parents. She shares information about their children through regular discussions and her electronic children's learning journals. This encourages parents to contribute to their children's development and progress, promoting a joined-up approach to children's learning.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 There is less opportunity for the younger children to use their senses, for example, by exploring and investigating a wider range of materials and resources.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

Safeguarding is effective. The childminder knows how to safeguard children and is fully aware of her responsibility to report any concerns. The childminder has well-written policies and procedures, which help her to promote children's well-being and safety effectively. The childminder completes thorough risk assessments and safety checks that focus well on keeping every child safe. This means that all children can move around safely and independently. The childminder has attended relevant training to keep up to date with any changes to the Early Years Foundation Stage. She meets regularly with other childminders to share good practice and ideas to benefit children's experiences. The childminder reflects well on her provision, and takes into account what parents say by gathering their feedback through questionnaires. The childminder's home is inviting and children approach the activities with confidence and ease.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder completes regular observations on the children to identify any gaps in their learning and assess their progress. She has flexible planning to follow children's interests and next steps. This enables her to successfully plan for their individual needs. Children confidently sing songs, and the younger ones enjoy moving to them. The childminder joins in enthusiastically, and helps to develop their communication and language skills effectively. The childminder provides craft activities. Children make leaf rubbings and the childminder encourages them to look at the different textures on their paper and describe the shapes within the patterns they have made. She encourages children to write their names and label their work. This supports their early literacy skills well.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children form strong relationships with the childminder. They happily show her how they can do something new, for example, putting on their shoes, showing a strong sense of achievement. The childminder praises them greatly. This successfully contributes towards children's emotional well-being. Children use the childminder's garden every day, where they are physically active, which helps to support their healthy lifestyle. The childminder encourages children to blow their own noses, making tissues accessible so that children can address their care needs independently. The childminder follows children's familiar home routines and supports the younger ones well ready for their rest.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children progress well in terms of their age and development. The range of activities and experiences support them well in readiness for school and the next steps in learning.
