This provision is good

 Children happily help themselves from the good range of toys and resources, which supports their growing confidence and independence. The childminder follows their lead and effectively plans activities to challenge their development across all areas of learning, helping them to reach their full potential.  Parents are positive about the service the childminder provides. They regularly share information about their children's progress. Parents notice what children achieve, which enables them to continue this learning at home.  The childminder regularly updates her training and knowledge. For example, she has improved her knowledge of equality and diversity which has helped her understand her responsibilities in depth. She now provides a fully inclusive setting for children.  The childminder treats children with respect and considers their diversity. She learns key words in children's home languages. This creates a welcome that supports

children's sense of belonging and well-being, particularly during settling-in with the childminder.  The childminder is committed to improving her provision. She knows the areas where she wishes to improve and takes appropriate action to update her skills and knowledge.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always widen her approach to introducing children to their early learning of letters in imaginative ways that fully engage children to learn more.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

 explore a wider variety of ways to excite children's learning of letters.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector spoke to the childminder at appropriate times and carried out a joint observation of children during their play.  The inspector looked at available documentation and the childminder's certificates.  The inspector spoke to the children and had a discussion with a parent.  The inspector viewed all areas used by children and checked the home for safety.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder uses her experience and training effectively to continually improve the quality of teaching to enable children to make good progress in their learning. Safeguarding is effective as the childminder updates her knowledge and ensures her provision is safe for all children. The childminder works effectively with parents and keeps them informed through daily messages. Good methods of assessing children's progress are in place. This means the childminder is able to identify any learning gaps and to put in place plans to support children's learning effectively. Good working relationships with other agencies, nurseries and schools help to ensure any concerns are addressed and children get the support they need.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder focuses on children's personal and social development well. This helps them to settle with her and develop good social skills and independence. The childminder displays her resources for children to help themselves and she sensitively follows their lead when they make choices. She adapts activities generally well to suit the differing needs and ages of the children. The childminder's good interaction with the children supports their emerging language and communication skills. The childminder obtains good information on their starting points and builds upon these effectively as they progress with her. She effectively evaluates her observations on children's play. This helps her plan appropriate activities that children enjoy and enables them to make good progress in their learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children show a strong sense of achievement when taking part in activities. The childminder ensures children have plenty of resources to explore. She gives appropriate praise, which gives children extra encouragement. This also supports children's good behaviour as they learn to share their toys while learning the different needs of others. The childminder ensures that children learn about hazards, for example, while they energetically climb and run in the park. The childminder observes children's dietary needs and encourages them to learn about healthy eating. For example, children enjoy the independence of helping themselves to water.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children settle well with the childminder and, as a result, younger children feel secure and relaxed and make good progress in their social skills. Older children speak confidently and are able to see to their personal care needs. The childminder is aware of areas where children need help and gives them extra support, which helps to prepare children as they move to school.
