This provision is good
Children progress at a typical rate from their initial starting points. The childminder encourages children's mathematical development and mark-making skills. Children benefit from a wide range of interesting and stimulating resources and activities. They are well supported through sensitive interactions with the childminder who challenges and supports their learning. The childminder monitors children's individual progress effectively. Areas for improvement are identified and discussed with parents so they can be acted upon swiftly. The childminder supports children's personal, social and emotional development. They are happy and confident to learn. Children are independent learners who make their own choices in activities and learn how to do things for themselves as part of a supportive and caring environment. The childminder reflects on his practice and makes changes, in order to continue to

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to challenge and extend children's speaking skills during activities. The childminder does not always encourage parents to contribute towards children's ongoing learning and assessment in the setting.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder and had discussions at appropriate times during the inspection. The inspector looked at relevant documentation, such as the childminder's self- evaluation, policies and procedures and children's assessment records. The inspector took account of the written views of parents recorded on feedback forms and in the compliments file.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder fully understands and implements policies and procedures to help keep children safe from harm. He promotes safe practices in the setting and knows what action to take if he has concerns about a child in his care. He shows an understanding of the further risks that children may be vulnerable to in the wider community. He reflects on his provision and daily practice and identifies priorities for improvement. This contributes towards changes being made to the environment, which helps to improve outcomes for children. Children's individual progress is regularly monitored across all areas of the curriculum and is used to target areas for development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The quality of teaching is good. The childminder is experienced and holds a childcare qualification. This helps him to support and challenge children during their play. He listens well, observes how the children are responding to the activities and adapts the activity if needed, in order to follow the children's interests. The childminder comments and ask questions during play. However, sometimes opportunities are missed to extend children's speaking skills. The childminder uses individual learning plans and identifies targets that are planned around children's interests. Parents are informed regularly about their child's progress. However, the childminder does not provide enough opportunities for parents to contribute towards their child's learning goals.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder has developed excellent relationships with the children who are all happy and confident to learn. The childminder places a strong emphasis on developing children's personal, social and emotional development. Children learn to play together, take turns and understand their feelings. They are interested and keen to be involved in the activities provided by the childminder. They also delight in following their own interests and choose from a wide range of stimulating resources, both inside and outdoors. Children enjoy being physically active, using the space to practise their climbing, running, balancing and riding skills. Children's independence is encouraged as they attempt to do things for themselves and receive praise, which helps to build their self-esteem.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
All children progress at a level that is appropriate to their stage of learning. The childminder is able to identify children who are working below their age expected outcomes. He works with parents so that plans are in place to support children's further development. The childminder supports children's learning through a variety of fun experiences. This helps children to gain the key skills needed to be ready for their eventual move on to school.
