She uses the process of self-evaluation well to identify areas of strength and further development, to drive forward improvement. The childminder takes time to get to know children and gives them lots of attention. As a result, children develop strong emotional attachments with the childminder and feel secure. The childminder has developed good systems to monitor children's development. She uses this information well to plan for their interests, in order to move them forward in their stage of learning.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder does not always use all opportunities fully to share with parents the appropriate strategies and ideas to support their children's progress further. At times, the childminder does not always encourage children to be more independent, particularly during personal care routines, such as mealtimes and when dressing themselves.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further

Inspection activities
The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times throughout the inspection about her practice and the systems she uses for observation, assessment and planning. The inspector observed the childminder and children taking part in activities in the home. The inspector sampled documents the childminder uses to support her practice, including relevant policies, consent forms, daily registers and children's development records. The inspector took into account parents' views by sampling written documents made available during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Overall, safeguarding is effective. The childminder completes regular risk assessments to ensure children play safely. She has a good knowledge of the safeguarding and welfare requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, including any child protection signs that would give her cause for concern. She is clear about how to refer these concerns in-line with the guidance from her Local Safeguarding Children's Board. She provides daily feedback to parents and shares children's assessments, thus inviting their comments on their children's progress. The childminder is committed to improving her professional development. For example, she has completed further training to extend her skills and knowledge on how to support children's development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good knowledge of the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. This helps her plan interesting activities that promote all areas of learning. The childminder completes regular observations on children, which show that children are making good progress in all areas of learning. The childminder promotes children's communication skills effectively, for example, by providing a running commentary on what they do. She gives children good opportunities to develop their early mark-making skills, for example, by encouraging them to make marks on paper using chunky crayons. The childminder recognises children's achievements and develops their sense of belonging well, for example, by displaying their work.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder's home is welcoming and very inviting to children; she ensures that toys and resources are easily accessible. Children are happy and confident in their environment. The childminder gathers relevant information about children's individual needs and starting points from parents when they first start. She uses this information effectively to help children settle and make good progress in their personal, social and emotional skills. The childminder plans local trips so children to have the opportunity to develop their social skills in preparation for the next stage of their learning. The childminder develops children's growing awareness of healthy lifestyles, for example, by using books at snack times to make links with what they are eating. Children behave well as they listen to the childminder's instructions.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Outcome for children are good; they enjoy their time at the childminder's home and parents are happy with the quality of care their children receive. Overall, children are making good progress in their learning and development.
