This provision is good
The childminder knows the children extremely well and offers a good range of activities and resources to accommodate their interests. Consequently, children are motivated to learn and make good progress in relation to their starting points. The childminder works very effectively with parents to settle children in and to accommodate their individual needs and routines. Therefore, children are very happy and secure and build highly positive relationships with each other. Children learn to be independent as they make choices and manage their own hygiene. This, and the childminder's close links with schools and other settings, helps children to move to school successfully. The childminder is reflective and includes parents and children in the ongoing evaluation of her setting. This helps her to identify strengths and weaknesses in order to promote quality outcomes for children and families. The childminder helps children to learn to manage their own behaviour through positive

praise and sensitive reminders. This helps children to learn to take turns and to respect each other. The childminder has good risk assessment procedures in place and involves the children in the evacuation practices. This helps to strengthen children's awareness of how to keep themselves safe.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
Younger children are not always able to select books easily. This does not further promote their interest in stories.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder playing and interacting with the children. The inspector looked at a sample of policies and procedures and children's progress records. The inspector looked at written feedback from parents. The inspector spoke to the childminder about her knowledge of safeguarding and current legislation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder demonstrates a strong commitment to keeping her knowledge up to date with new information. Since her previous inspection she has gained a recognised childcare qualification and has carried out her own research and reading. This demonstrates a commitment to professional development that improves the quality of her teaching and enables her to provide an effective service. Safeguarding of children is effective. The childminder has a good understanding of the local child protection procedures and knows who to contact should she have concerns about children or families. This helps to ensure that children remain safe in her care.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder has a good understanding of how children learn and she promotes all areas of development well. For example, younger children learn to balance and climb and to take risks in a safe environment which promotes their physical well-being. They also laugh excitedly as they bounce on the trampoline and enjoy looking for toys in the sand and bark areas. The childminder interacts successfully with children and uses clear explanations and instructions. This helps to promote children's language and understanding effectively. The childminder follows children's lead during play and recognises how everyday opportunities promote learning for the younger children. The childminder monitors and tracks children's progress successfully in order to plan further activities to move children forward in their learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are outstanding
The childminder promotes children's well-being extremely effectively. She has a very patient and caring attitude and is a highly effective role model for children, which supports their personal development. The childminder effectively promotes children's knowledge of the world around them. For example, she takes children on regular trips in the local community. Meal and snack times are given a high priority and the childminder uses these occasions to promote healthy eating as well as a time for communicating together. The childminder is extremely sensitive to the individual backgrounds of all children and works closely with families.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are confident and make good progress in their learning in relation to their starting points. The childminder uses her knowledge of how children learn to provide interesting and challenging activities. Children are therefore well motivated and well prepared for their move to school.
