This provision is good
The childminder places a strong emphasis on the importance of working in partnership with parents. She works closely with them to gather information about what children can do at home. She shares information about how children are learning and developing in her setting. These good partnerships create a consistent approach to meeting the care and learning needs of children. The childminder works effectively with the school teachers and other professionals to ensure that children are reaching their full potential. The childminder and assistant are friendly, kind and caring towards children and offer lots of praise to build children's self-esteem. This helps children to be emotionally secure and confident in the childminding setting. The childminder holds an appropriate early years qualification and undertakes regular professional development activities. This helps her to identify and drive forward areas

for improvement. Therefore, she continues to meet the individual needs of the children who attend.
p.1
It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder is not yet observing and accurately assessing the quality of the assistant's practice. The childminder does not always encourage older and more-able children to suggest a range of possible reasons about why things happen and how things work.
p.1
What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

extend the opportunities for older and more-able children to predict a wider range of possible answers to extend their thinking skills even further provide more targeted guidance and support to promote the development of the assistant's teaching practice.
p.2
Inspection activities
The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and outdoors, and assessed the impact this has on children's learning. The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector spoke with the childminder at appropriate times and discussed self- evaluation. The inspector considered the views of parents and children. The inspector looked at relevant documentation relating to the Early Years Foundation Stage provided by the childminder. The inspector checked evidence of the suitability of the childminder and other adults in the household.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
The childminder generally talks with her assistant about the childminding service and she shares the policies with her to support her understanding. However, she has not fully explored all the different ways in which she can support the assistant in continually developing her practice, in order to improve the consistency of teaching. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective because the childminder has a good knowledge of how to safeguard children. She understands the different situations that might affect children's welfare and is clear on the appropriate action to take. Therefore, risks to children are minimised. The childminder seeks the views of the parents and children to help her in identifying areas for improvements. The feedback is very positive and describes how parents are very happy with the progress children have made in their learning and development.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder and assistant promote children's early writing skills effectively. Children experiment with the marks they make throughout a range of different activities. The childminder effectively supports children's communication and language skills. This helps older children to be confident talkers and younger children to experiment with sounds they make. The childminder and assistant question children and give them lots of explanations about why things might be happening to extend children's understanding of the world around them. However, occasionally the childminder and assistant do not always encourage children to explore a range of possible answers in order to extend their thinking even further. The childminder effectively supports children's understanding of diversity which means children show an interest in the different ways of life.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder effectively supports children's understanding of safety. Children are able to describe what they need to do to keep themselves and their friends safe. The childminder has an extensive range of resources indoors and outdoors which children can easily access. This helps children to independently make choices about what they want to play with. The childminder meets children's care needs very well which supports children's physical well-being and enables them to flourish. She provides children with healthy home-cooked meals which help to ensure that children are well nourished.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder regularly checks the progress children are making in their learning and development. This enables her to plan challenging activities that focus specifically on what children need to learn next. As a result, all children are making good progress in their learning and development. The good teaching ensures children are acquiring the key skills required for their next stage in learning.
