This provision is good
Children are making good progress in all areas of learning because of the good quality teaching. The childminder plans activities around what children know and can already do. She makes regular and accurate observations of children's learning. These assessments are used effectively so that children's next steps in learning are precise and sharply focused. The childminder has a secure knowledge of how to safeguard and protect children. She undertakes regular training and demonstrates her robust knowledge and understanding of what to do and who to contact if there are any concerns. Children's welfare and safety are fostered effectively. The childminder plans a safe environment in which children make their own choices and enjoy their play and learning. Children's behaviour is good. They share, take turns and communicate their needs. Self-care skills are well promoted in readiness for school. Self-evaluation is effective and the childminder accurately identifies the strengths and

areas of development. She carefully reflects on activities and uses this information, along with children's interests, to promote equality of opportunity in learning.

It is not yet outstanding because:
Children do not always have the time or opportunity to investigate, develop their own ideas or solve problems.

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder's practice with the children. The inspector discussed the children's development with the childminder. The inspector discussed the process of self-evaluation with the childminder and how she obtains the views of all those that use her provision. The inspector examined a selection of documentation.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. The childminder's good knowledge of safeguarding is underpinned by her robust written procedures. These are implemented well through her effective practice. Good levels of supervision support children's safety. The childminder evaluates her practice including the views of others. She develops future plans that concentrate on improving learning outcomes for children. She attends training to enhance her professional development. This has improved her knowledge and understanding of how to support two-year-olds. The childminder works professionally with parents and other providers to ensure mutual support and learning for each child.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
Children clearly enjoy their time with the childminder, attend regularly and engage well with each other and what they are learning. They enjoy activities where they can make choices and when they work with adults. The childminder uses good teaching skills to support children's early language development. For example, she describes their play to them, extends their vocabulary and uses careful questions that are appropriate to the children's level of understanding. She also builds on children's interests, for example, she introduces them to letters of the alphabet that are significant to them, such as the first letter of their name. This helps children to effectively develop the key skills they need for their future learning.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The caring and sensitive nature of the childminder means that children form secure attachments and their emotional well-being is consistently supported. Children foster a sense of responsibility and learn to value and respect difference. Gentle reminders help children understand about being kind to each other and they are encouraged to tidy away and look after the resources. They develop good self-help skills as the childminder encourages them to do things for themselves whenever possible, such a buttering their own toast for snack. Good hygiene practices and healthy eating are actively encouraged. Children have good opportunities to enjoy regular fresh air and exercise. As a result, their well-being, healthy lifestyles and positive relationships are successfully promoted.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
The childminder has a good understanding of the learning and development requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, using effective activities and resources to underpin this. Regular progress checks on children's attainment mean that monitoring is good. Any gaps or concerns about children's development are discussed with parents to ensure that early support or intervention is sought in a timely fashion. As a result, all children make good progress and are reaching typical levels of development for their age.
