This provision is good

 The childminder provides a nurturing and loving environment for young children, which helps to ensure they develop secure emotional attachments right from the start.  The quality of teaching is good. The childminder promotes children's early communication well. She continually talks to children, repeating words which encourage young children to imitate sounds and begin to use single words.  The childminder ensures her home is safe and resources are organised so children make choices about what they want to play with. This helps them grow in confidence and independence.  The childminder demonstrates a good awareness of the importance of keeping her knowledge up to date. She identifies training to help develop her skills and improve outcomes for children.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not make good use of natural materials to enable young children to explore using their senses.  The childminder does not always enhance young children's physical skills of moving and handling fully effectively as they play.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 develop opportunities for children to use natural materials to enable them to explore and investigate using their senses  provide more resources to enhance children's physical skills of moving and handling.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder and the children and spoke with the childminder about children's learning.  The inspector spoke with the childminder, at appropriate times throughout the inspection, regarding her practice and the arrangements for observation, assessment and planning.  The inspector checked the documentation the childminder uses to support her practices.  The inspector discussed and read the self-evaluation document.  The inspector read parental feedback forms.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has a good understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage. She has developed her planning and assesses the success of activities. This helps her to meet children's individual needs and monitor their progress well. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder's clear procedures and well-maintained documentation contribute to the promotion of children's safety and welfare. The childminder is very reflective and continues to identify areas for development that improve children's well-being and learning experiences. She has attended training on observations and assessments and this has helped her confidence in recognising children's abilities.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The quality of teaching is good. The childminder assesses children's abilities and checks their progress through regular observation. She uses this information to plan for each child's next steps for learning. This enables her to identify any gaps in children's learning and address these quickly. The childminder successfully motivates children so that they are eager to learn. She has a secure awareness of supporting young toddlers to be confident to explore and sits with them, providing a range of exciting toys to entice their curiosity. The childminder introduces music and children have great fun dancing. They begin to know the words in some of the songs, which supports their early communication effectively.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder provides a warm and welcoming environment. She liaises closely with parents and recognises the importance of having a gradual settling-in time. She gains valuable information from parents in order to build up a secure picture of each child's needs and to ensure that the care they receive is consistent with their home life. This promotes children's well-being. The childminder ensures that all children get lots of opportunities for fresh air and outdoor play. They go out daily for walks to parks or in the neighbourhood. The childminder encourages positive behaviour from a young age. For example, she gently reminds children to look at the posters displayed rather than pulling them off the wall. This teaches children respect to look after their environment.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in their development and show curiosity to explore their learning environment. Children develop good independence, which helps prepare them for school. From a very early age, they learn to master tasks, such as feeding themselves, and develop good personal hygiene routines. Children are sociable, confident and motivated to learn. Overall, the outcomes for children are good.
