This provision is good

 The childminder plans activities to promote the learning and development of all children, using a wide range of good quality toys. This helps children to explore freely and make good progress in their learning.  Assessment is sharp and precise and frequently shared with parents. This contributes towards children benefiting from continuity of care and learning at home.  The childminder teaches older children to be independent and to learn skills in mathematics and literacy. This helps older children to be well prepared for their next stage in learning.  The childminder is a positive role model who continuously talks to children as they play. This helps children to develop good language skills, be motivated and behave well.  The childminder holds a childcare qualification and attends regular training courses, such as safeguarding and first aid. This helps the childminder to protect children in her

Inspection activities

 The inspector viewed the areas of the premises used for childminding.  The inspector observed the quality of teaching during activities indoors and assessed the impact this has on children's learning.  The inspector completed a joint observation with the childminder.  The inspector held a meeting with the childminder and looked at relevant documentation, such as self-evaluation and evidence of risk assessments and safeguarding procedures.  The inspector spoke to children during the inspection and took account of parents' views through questionnaires and comments.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder is well qualified. She fully understands the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage, which has a positive effect on children's outcomes. The childminder has identified ways to improve her practice and takes into consideration the views of parents and children when doing this. The childminder works closely with the local authority to keep up to date with any changes in legislation and supporting guidance. For example, the childminder has improved the systems to assess children's development, which has had a positive impact on learning outcomes for children. The arrangements for safeguarding are effective. The childminder understands her responsibilities to protect children and risk assess her home. She is aware of what she needs to share with local schools and other settings that children attend. However, she has not yet made strong links with them to further promote continuity of care and learning for children.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder plans effectively to meet the needs of all children in her care. She carefully observes children to see what they already know and plans their next steps appropriately, alongside parents' feedback. The childminder plans activities to focus on teaching older children skills in mathematics and literacy, so children are becoming ready for school. She skilfully adapts her teaching to enhance and extend children's learning as they play. This helps older children, who are in receipt of funding, to make good progress in their learning.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

Children are confident, self-motivated and emotionally prepared for their next stage in learning. The childminder plans activities to promote children's personal, social and emotional development and knowledge of the world effectively. Children learn about the similarities and differences of other people and communities around them. They are helped to feel safe and secure. The childminder includes children in fire drill procedures so they know what to do should a fire occur, and they assess their own risks as they play.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

All children are developing within their typical age bands and are making good progress. Younger children settle well with the childminder. Older children are prepared for their move on to school as their literacy skills are developing well. They can recognise letters and they pronounce sounds well, which is preparing them to read and write.
