p.1

This provision is good

 The childminder works closely with parents to accurately assess and plan each child's learning in all areas. As a result, children make good progress in relation to their starting points.  The childminder promotes children's healthy lifestyles successfully. She encourages healthy eating, good personal hygiene, and provides lots of outdoor play and physical activities.  Children are developing positive attitudes and good behaviour. They share with others and show good manners.  The childminder has made several improvements since the last inspection. For example, she has developed rigorous risk assessments to maintain safe and secure environments for children. In addition, she has introduced highly effective communication systems to keep parents well informed and involved.

p.1

It is not yet outstanding because:

 The childminder does not always provide many opportunities for children to use different materials to promote their early writing skills further.  The childminder does not consistently use the correct words when naming the things children see, to help them learn more about the natural world.

p.1

What the setting needs to do to improve further

To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 extend the range of materials available for children to develop their early writing skills further  strengthen children's understanding of the natural world through helping them to correctly name what they see and show an interest in.

p.2

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed activities and the quality of the childminder's interaction with the children.  The inspector observed the management of children's care routines.  The inspector looked at children's assessment records.  The inspector sampled the childminder's documentation and discussed her knowledge of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage.  The inspector took account of the views of parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has a good knowledge and understanding of the requirements of the Early Years Foundation Stage. This includes a secure understanding of her role and responsibilities to promote children's welfare and to protect them from harm. Safeguarding is effective. The childminder extends her knowledge and skills through attending training events and workshops, and actively seeks up-to-date guidance from professional organisations. For example, she has obtained a wealth of resources to raise children's awareness of diversity. This has helped her to promote children's personal, social and emotional development and understanding of the world further. The childminder seeks parents' views to evaluate and make improvements to her provision. Parents state that their children thrive in the familiarity and security of the childminder's care.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

The childminder interacts with energy and enthusiasm in children's play. She encourages children to lead their own play and asks many questions to challenge them well as they explore. For example, at the inspection, children explored different materials with their hands and containers. The childminder counted with the children and asked them about the colour, size and shape of the materials and containers. She responded quickly to their interests. For example, children became interested in the faces on toy animals they had included. In response, the childminder talked about facial features to find out what children knew about their bodies. As a result of this good quality teaching, children maintained interest in their play for long periods.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder works closely with parents to settle children and meet their routines and needs consistently. As a result, children explore happily and settle quickly at their sleep times. This promotes children's well-being effectively. The childminder provides a good range of toys and activities and ensures children can find their favourite toys easily for themselves. For example, children found their favourite books for the childminder to read with them. The childminder provides many activities for children to enjoy in the local community. These help children to make friends, develop good social skills, find out what people do and explore the world they live in. The childminder uses these experiences to help children learn about keeping safe, such as how to cross the road safely and how firefighters help us.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children receive good support and encouragement to succeed and make choices in their play. They develop self-confidence and independence well, and benefit from lots of praise. As a result, children join in new activities with curiosity and enjoy managing tasks for themselves. This helps to prepare them well for their future learning and school.
