This provision is good
The childminder uses good teaching methods. Her assessments of children are accurate and she has a good understanding of their developmental needs. This information informs her planning so that the activities she provides promote each child's learning and they make good progress. The childminder interacts positively and enthusiastically with the children. She genuinely enjoys being with them and they respond positively to this. They are emotionally secure and build strong relationships. This motivates them to learn and promotes their well-being and self-esteem. There are robust policies and procedures for safeguarding children. The childminder has a secure understanding of child protection issues and is aware of what to do if she has a concern about a child. She is vigilant in her supervision of children, meaning they are safe. The childminder works effectively with other early years professionals and settings, as

well as sharing best practice with other childminders. She seeks the views of parents to help her measure the quality of her service. These systems support her well to make continuous improvements to her practice, thus improving outcomes for children.

It is not yet outstanding because:
The childminder sometimes misses opportunities to promote children's learning about patterns, shapes and sizes. Occasionally, the childminder forgets to reinforce positive daily hygiene routines with children, so they become familiar with and understand why they need to wash their hands.

What the setting needs to do to improve further
To further improve the quality of the early years provision the provider should:

Inspection activities
The inspector observed the childminder and children during activities inside and outside. The inspector carried out a joint observation with the childminder. The inspector discussed the provision with parents and gathered their views from questionnaires and comments in their children's learning files. The inspector sampled a range of paperwork including policies, risk assessments, children's learning files, and the childminder's self-evaluation document. The inspector discussed the provision with the children and the childminder at appropriate times during the inspection.
p.2
Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good
Safeguarding is effective. Children benefit greatly from the childminder's commitment to continually update and improve her provision. Parents compliment her practice and partnerships are strong. The childminder has a childcare qualification and this influences the quality of her teaching. For example, training in early creativity guides her activities to improve children's experiences. Effective monitoring of children's progress and development means the childminder promptly identifies gaps in children's learning. The childminder tracks children's achievements to seek timely intervention where needed, to help improve outcomes. She addresses children's learning needs well so that they continue to make good progress.
p.3
Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good
The childminder is vigilant and recognises children's efforts and achievements, offering them lots of praise. This promotes children's confidence and resilience as they learn to persevere with what they set out to do. The childminder asks interesting questions to develop children's vocabulary and challenge their thinking. This promotes children's language development well as they learn to solve problems. The childminder sensitively repeats and corrects words that children find difficult. Role play activities, such as puppet shows, help foster children's imagination and creative ideas. Children learn to express themselves without inhibition.
p.3
Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good
The childminder supports children's emotional development very well, which prepares them for starting school and other settings. The childminder supports children effectively so they develop a sense of identity, self-motivation and behave well. Children talk confidently about their home life and experiences. The childminder encourages children to socialise with others and they form good friendships. These experiences help children to share, cooperate, and respect others' feelings. The childminder teaches children about acceptance and understanding as they learn about difference and disability. Children develop confidence, independence and self-control, which influence their socialisation and self-awareness. They learn to collaborate and become active and curious learners.
p.3
Outcomes for children are good
Children are excited and enthusiastic to learn in the childminder's stimulating and vibrant environment. They choose to play indoors or outdoors and easily select the resources they need to support their ideas. They explore and receive attentive responses from the childminder, meaning they confidently ask questions and extend their learning.
