She shares this with parents so that they can support their children's learning at home.  Children are safe in the setting because the childminder carries out regular risk assessments and practises the fire evacuation with them.  Children have very good relationships with the childminder. This enables them to have a secure emotional base from which to explore their surroundings and share their thoughts and feelings.  The childminder effectively uses self-evaluation and feedback from parents to identify areas to improve. This enables her to maintain her good quality of teaching and raise

p.2

What the setting needs to do to improve further

 review the storage of books so that children can access these independently to develop their interest in stories  provide further opportunities for younger children to explore a range of equipment to develop their awareness of technology and its uses.

Inspection activities

 The inspector observed the childminder interacting with the children indoors and outside.  The inspector spoke to the childminder about her knowledge of safeguarding.  The inspector looked at a sample of policies and children's progress records.  The inspector looked at written feedback from parents.

p.2

Effectiveness of the leadership and management is good

The childminder has a very positive attitude to improving her practice further. She regularly attends training, uses online resources and shares examples of good practice with other childminders. Safeguarding is effective because the childminder has a good knowledge of safeguarding and child protection. She knows who she should contact if she has any concerns about a child's safety or welfare, in order to keep them safe. Since her last inspection, the childminder has extended her range of resources so that children can access these independently to extend their play and learning. She uses her ongoing observations of the children and her environment to identify further areas for development.

p.3

Quality of teaching, learning and assessment is good

Teaching is good. The childminder supports children's learning and development effectively. Children enjoy using their hands to explore and mix paint, and jump together on the trampoline. The childminder extends their communication effectively by offering new words and talking to them as they play together. She has a good understanding of how to teach children about the local community and they enjoy visits to local groups and parks. This effectively promotes their personal development and their knowledge of the world around them.

p.3

Personal development, behaviour and welfare are good

The childminder knows the children and their families well. She works closely with parents to ensure that she meets the individual needs and routines of the children. Children happily go to the childminder for help or comfort and enjoy cuddles with her. They are developing a strong sense of self-esteem as the childminder gives them frequent praise. She encourages them to take turns with each other and sensitively reminds them about good behaviour. This helps them to understand the boundaries of the setting and to respect each other. The childminder is a good role model and promotes good hygiene. She offers children healthy snacks and regular fresh air to support a healthy lifestyle. This helps to support children's good health and physical well-being.

p.3

Outcomes for children are good

Children make good progress in relation to their starting points. The childminder is skilful at knowing when to support children's play and when to allow them to play alongside others. This helps children to learn independence skills and helps to prepare them for their move to school.
